Hello friends! Last week I wore a corset for a day, and I'm thinking I need to acquire more corsets now because it was so fun. I have been wanting to make this video ever since seeing so many people on tiktok and Instagram wearing corsets this Spring! The aesthetic for this video kinda feels like fair maiden cottagecore vibes, and I had so much fun with it :) I am well aware that this is just a cute modern corset, and I really only got it so I could pretend I'm in a fairytale. If you're interested though, I can film this video again after getting a historically accurate fitted Edwardian corset.

Haha yes! I explained why on a recent Patreon live stream 😄 I didn’t like the way the blonde turned out and want to maybe try it again during summer. For now I just used a color depositing conditioner so that I didn’t have to dye my hair again. It feels so nice to be ginger again ✨☺️

One other thing corsets are good for - singing! I knew a friend in college who was a professional opera singer and a member of Glimmerglass opera theatre. She LOVE D it when her costume called for a corset. Instant Support she always called it.

I’m glad that you addressed that it is not historically accurate and you didn’t just go straight to tight lacing (which was hardly even a thing) and you defended corsets! And yes, corsets were not a form of women’s oppression. A lot of corset manufacturers were actually owned and ran by women, so if anything it just goes to show that corsets were great! The corset you got was beautiful! 🥰💕

I used to love having tight fitting clothes when I was younger, it felt reassuring. Becoming chronically ill and having blood flow issues, all clothes were uncomfortable for a while but as I'm getting better I can wear regular clothes again. It does help me with my adhd related anxiety, sometimes, to wear heavy or tight items or to have some weight on me. I've been thinking about trying a corset for those anxiety days to see if it would have that similar effect. Also because they are so pretty! 😍

Ooh when wearing a corset your body realizes oh I can’t breathe this way (low in the lungs) and it will redirect to more in the upper area of the lungs, which doesn’t affect the amount of air you breathe in all that much, but that could be one of the reasons where you were like oh I am not breathing.

Mamamia, this film duo is just great! I love watching them, they give the pep as well as vacation desires (haha) and Meryl Streep is just perfect! Strangely I preferred 2, but 1 is still great! Anyway, back to the main subject of your video! The corsets! I find this fashion accessory so elegant! In truth, and like many I think, I also associated this with female oppression, it was clearly the symbol. But your words made me think and I think indeed there was good in the corsets, in addition to the elegance that they bring to an outfit. Certainly you have to choose it to your size and not tighten it to the point of fainting, but for back support, it's a very good thing! I would definitely need it. I agree with you that corsets were just like historical bras, but I do think there's something to be said for (and there's actually quite a bit of research that's been done on this) the *symbolism* of restricting women's movement/hiding their bodies and how that ties into the oppression women have faced and still face. take foot binding in historical china as an extreme example -- this way of making women more 'feminine' quite literally inhibited their ability to effectively move about. corsets, wearing several layers of heavy cloth, wearing shoes with heels, etc - all these things serve much the same purpose, albeit to a lesser degree. and as for the example of bras, there are a lot of women who feel that bras are also symbols of oppression -- why is it considered 'unattractive' for a woman's nipples to be showing, or her breasts to be sagging rather than held upright by a bra? (although it's also totally fine if you love wearing bras/the way you look in them! my point is more that women shouldn't feel ashamed for *not* wearing one.) just some things to think about....i definitely agree with you that it's not as cut-and-dry as 'OMG corsets were evil!!' , but at the same time i think it's important to not just write off the ways in which clothing/fashion has mirrored the oppression of women.
