I have this as a standard. Lovely. Full of scent and in massive bloom right now. Taken cuttings with view toi training as a climber elsewhere.

Mine’s doing the same - filling my tiny back yard with its citrusy scent.🥰

Arthur Bell was bred by Sam McGredy and named for Bell's Whiskey. Sam recalled that his reward for this rose was numerous cases of Whiskey! 😀 Quite a long time ago 1965. It has been awarded 2 merit awards, and Belfast fragrance award 1967. Lovely rose. Great to see its still blooming in your garden.

When the roses go pale and start to look bad should I cut them off? It's my 1st time planting roses they look stunning but the older withered roses seem to be weighing them down.

That´s a spectacular rose! But if you review this as a thorny climber I´m wondering what your opinion on Gertrude Jekyll is. I had a real struggle with her binding her up last night. Can´t wait for all the following rose reviews from your wonderful garden. Thanks for this one, best wishes, Hanni.
