You can notice Elizabeth was pregnant at the time, but Producers tried to cover up. It was early in the Shows run and the writers didn’t want the complications of writing in a new child /actor so early, so they covered and waited until 2 more seasons were in the can, then they gave the go ahead for a pregnancy on the show.
