Humanity is finally defending itself. Historic mission "DART" will collide with asteroid Dimorphos in the first attempt to divert the course of a celestial object in human history. The European mission "HERA" will follow, which will study the effects of the collision. The two missions will equip us with the necessary knowledge, so that we can face the catastrophic threat of meteorites in the future.

6. We often hear "why spend so much money on space missions?". Consider this: The DART mission will cost a total of about $ 300-400 million. "Spiderman: No Way Home" grossed $ 1.16 billion in less than two weeks. In other words, the citizens of the planet have given at least three times as much money in just two weeks to have fun for 2.5 hours watching fictional heroes fight fictional bad guys, than they give to a mission that will potentially guarantee the continuation of life in planet.
By no means do I want to convey that it is bad to enjoy a nice movie. But the view that we give a lot of money to Space and Astronomy is wrong. Only when the cost of space is compared to other areas of human activity can we conclude whether "a lot" or "a little" money is spent.
