Just noticed with the way you worded it...the jedi gave into the influence of Anakin's fear instead of using their influence to overcome his or guide him a more productive way.

I am not sure that is true; they did. There is the scene with Yoda where he tells Anakin not to be sad for those you lose. Plus, Yoda assigned Asoka as his padawan to help him grow and learn to overcome his attachment issues. Anakin was not willing to face his fear. He is very insecure; even Obi-Wan tells him need to prove himself would be his undoing, which is why a padawan he will stay.

Well the thing is, the Jedi counsel had their own fears that they allowed to control them. One fear being of Anakin’s power, should he go to the dark side.

@@em.5941 Are you talking about the Clone War episode with the Brother, Sister, and Father, where he saw a glimpse of his future? I would agree with you on that. I always saw those episodes where he was given a glimpse of the future if his path remained unaltered. I think all his visions were just his path if they remained unaltered. Ankin, by far, is my favorite character in Star Wars. I know many may not agree with this statement, but while he was driven a lot by fear, he was also driven by the desire and thirst for power. Palpatine saw this in him and played this over and over. The video above points out how he stroked his ego, and Palpatine was almost a groomer in some aspect of how he manipulated this desire in Anikin. I know many channels I watch like to blame the Jedi Order for their Domgma and how they become loyal to the republic over the Jedi Order for their failings. I do not disagree with some of this, but when it comes to Ankin, I have always thought his fall to the dark side was his own doings. The order tried to help him, but he always acted like the rules did not apply. I think he held himself back, not the Jedi Order; he married in secret and never followed the rules, and this was shown in episodes of the Clone War; you see, he always had to do what he wanted. The Jedi Order, for good or bad, is code, and that code is what made them Jedi. It was a lifelong commitment. Ankin wanted the title of Jedi but did not want to follow the code, or only parts of the code that fit with what he wanted.

@@mistyhutchison6699 no, i meant the movie it was a typo lol. and anakin was devout to the jedi code for a long time. not just the parts he wanted despite the orders arrogance. His mom dying and ahsoka leaving are really one of the biggest changes in his attitude towards the order.

Anakin lived on a desert planet as a slave surrounded by scum, and then the most beautiful person he’s ever seen comes up and they both experience a traumatic event in maul’s attack, then losing his mother escalated his attachment to padme, his environment molded him into that, not having a father figure until quigon, then losing him also played a role. I think anyone in his situation would have acted similarly

There were a lot of different things that ultimately led to Anakin falling to the dark side. But the death of Qui Gon put the seal of approval on it. Because he would have listened to Anakin and would have let him be more of himself rather than an Jedi robot. He lost his mother. He had to hide his relationship with Padme. He also had the Chancellor/Palpatine/Sith Lord manipulating him and situations around him.

His fall had so many factors and outside forces. 1. Him being a slave to Watto. 2. Often being bullied in childhood by Watto and others besides his Mother Shmi, his best friend Kidster, And C 3PO prior to meeting Qui Gon, Padme, Jar Jar, And Obi Wan. 3. The death of Qui Gon also played a good deal and left a emptyness and void to him. 4. Unable to free his Mother from slavery himself. 5. Obi Wan often being dismissive and resentful towards him for many years. 6. His Mother dying in front of his very eyes in a painful and torturous ways due to The Tuskan Raiders. 7. Ahsoka being set up and framed. 8. Ahsoka leaving the order. 9. Obi Wan faking his death. 10. Him And Padme often lacking good communidation with another and not enough honesty. 11. His murdering of The Tusken Raiders even if they killed his Mother a part of him felt bad for it and that what he did was not right even if he did despise them he felt eliminating them like that although in a moment of weakness was faulty. 12. The War Crimes of The Clone Wars. 13. Plenty of manipulation and egging on by Palpatine. 14. Him not getting the therapy and counciling he truly needed from early on. 15. Most of The Jedi not really trying to help him much the way a person who was not born in the order needed. 16. Dooku taking his arm. 17. Padme not putting more bounderies and conditions down. 18. Obi Wan not giving him praise that often. Etc.

It’s known that Mace was able to overcome his dark side urges and channel them into his fighting style, why not have him be the mentor since clearly he knows how to handle those feelings? (Outside of “so the movie can happen”)

That’s why. Mace understands the battle, they could feel anakin’s emotions & Mace knew that that battle between one’s internal darkside/lightside is tough & given anakin’s emotions, mace knew the darkside would win over him. I feel that’s why Mace was always perceived as being in his way. - he was really trying to look out for him.

The jedi weren't right about Anakin. They did a good ol self fulfilling prophecy by handling anakin all wrong. They tried to teach him as if he was another youngling taken from birth. Luke turned out great and had attachments and started training much later than anakin.

I always thought the main reason Anakin was not granted Jedi Master was because he didn't have his padawan (Ahsoka) graduate to Jedi Knight.

@@EmperorBoscoTrue, but Palpatine also put Anakin in that position in order to further drive a wedge between Anakin and the other Jedi. The Jedi were also too blind to see that Palpatine was manipulating them and everyone else this entire time.

I have always thought the expectation that Anakin would bring a balance to the Force should have considered that at the time the power of the Force was heavily tilted towards the Jedi at that time. At that point a balance would mean a rise of the dark side, no?

The prophecy of Anakin bringing balance to the force is about how he was supposed to take over for the celestial, Father of Mortis. Father does represent a neutrality in the force and does help maintain the balance between the Son (darkside) and Daughter (lightside) making sure neither of them go unchecked. That being said when the Force itself seeks balance it actually wants one side to fully influence the galaxy* over the other and it doesn't care which, not really our definition of balance but that's how the Force sees it. Like a piece of toast the force wants a nice spread of either butter or jam and the bread itself is unbalanced when half has butter and half has jam.

@@PowuhToSevenExcept Yoda and the other Jedi may have been wrong. Qui Gon would’ve provided Anakin the emotional support and guidance that Anakin needed to become better and more balanced. It was also their attempts to control him that made Anakin feel that they were holding him back and trying to force him into a Jedi mold which didn’t suit him. Whereas Qui Gon would’ve let Anakin be himself and provided an outlet for his feelings.

The comic book Tales of the Jedi and other printed Star Wars stories do a better job of conveying the moment of actually falling to the dark side. It's like choosing a psychological disassociation and then the power corrupts you and keeps you there.

I love the effort you guys had put in this video but one of my theories is the fact the jedi council never properly addressed/ trained the jedi knights how to properly deal with loss, weather it would a love interest they might possibly have or specific clones within the squadrons they took command of

No, because aside from 'avoiding attachments,' they clearly didn't know how to deal with the loss themselves. Instead, they avoided close personal attachments outside the Jedi Order. And their Padawans were taken from their original families as babies growing up without any further closeness or need for them. Hence they were ill equipped to understand or deal with the needs of a 10 year old boy who had just left his mother and friends, and home plant and the entire life he knew in order to join and train with them in a completely different way.

@@mr.safensound4238Quinlan Vos would of been able to help Anakin they both were born from slavery and were brought to the order late the problem was Quinlan himself was too much of a loose Canon even more so then Anakin was in the original timelines so had Anakin been trained by him he may of fallen to the dark side much much faster and I could see Quinlan joining him and Quinlan would teach Anakin how to do manwhoring and not be a one love type of person as well as do undercover missions rather then stay in the temple most of the time yeah.

Such a huge oversimplification. Still a great video, but I was hoping you would go deeper with his character especially since you showed clone wars in the first clip. I don't think you can truly understand the influences and motivations of these characters without watching clone wars. I definitely think you guys should do more videos like this. Diving in to individual characters and their development and mindsets would be super fun!

Hey, I have an off topic question - the little boy Anakin was buddies with when he was younger - he semi-hugged him to make a point to Qui-gon. Is he the same character we see in Rogue one - the one who played Bohdi Rook? I mean, how cool would that be - a continuing destiny for a non-Skywalker character.

My only problem was that it was so quick on screen. I want to make a FanEdit that incorporates Clone Wars, Rogue One, Andor and Obi-wan into the prequels. Basically, cut out most of Episode 1, and have Anakin becoming Vader the cliffhanger of Episode 2.

No. While the situations mirrored eachother, they were not the same. In Ep3, Anakin chose to throw the Galaxy between Padmé and a possible, but not certain death. In Ep6 he chose to throw himself between Luke and assured immediate death. His choice in Revenge of the Sith, was fueled by a selfish attachment towards Padmé. In Return of the Jedi, his choice was fueled by selfless compassion towards Luke, who showed him the same.

Good video. I recent watched the prequel trilogy with my son (first introduction to Star Wars! Big dad moment😊) My biggest issue with this movie was the fact that Anakin is the one who discovers that Palpatine is the Sith lord, and he immediately runs to warn Mace Windu. Then five minutes later he is against the Jedi and ready to be a Sith himself. A Sith who kills kids! Someone else should have discovered Palpatine so Anakin wouldn’t have such a bipolar moment.

interesting take. maybe that person goes to Anakin first, and thats the point where he decides to hide palpatine's identity, kills the person who found out, then goes to palpatine to warn him, etc...

1. He was trying to remain to true to his training (which had been on going for over a decade now, thats a lot of knowledge, muscle memory - including the brain, and commitment) even all the way up to him cutting Mace’s arm off. He just wanted didn’t want Mace to kill Palpatine - which is the Jedi way - since he was the only shot Anakin had (due manipulation by the most genius and manipulative - an entire galaxy he played to total control - sith lord of all time) at keeping Padme alive And 2. Once Anakin betrayed Mace, he committed himself to Palpatine, which meant to the dark side as he knew what Palpatine was at this time, and thus was consumed by the dark side. He is now a by sith by definition. And “a sith who kills children” is just a sith

I think Anakin wanted to be a master because palpatine told him that the knowledge of darth plagueis was in the jedi holocrons and only a jedi master could access it , not just cause he was arrogant . (I read about this in the revenge of the sith novel)
