this is the better version of the theme and im angry that no official release, not even the full version theme has this theme feel in it, the things i love are during the next time that brass!! and the start having that sound that comes in twice, i cannot describe it, then towards the end of the next time there is that aaahhhhhhh decending sound. just brilliant and im so gutted they ditched it

It actually works without the middle 8. It makes for a much more abrupt and sudden ending as opposed to the 2006-2010 ending which gradually brings it to its end.

I always liked thi version, because it retains a sense of continuity with the opening theme (unlike the closing theme of 2006-2007 which sounded too different) and has a tangible Derbyshire bassline. All it needed was a middle eight.

We all said we hated this theme back in 2005 because we didn’t get the middle 8. Now I see the comments filled with people saying they love it.

This business about the series numbering from 2005 onwards, I sometimes refer to them as "Series 1/Season 27", "Series 2/Season 28", "Series 3/Season 29" etc. That way I can be reminded of how many seasons of Doctor Who there are altogether and also how many the show has done since the revival. How does that sound?

This is it. Unless you have a different version of the series 1 DVDs (this is the one used in the boxsets, not sure about the individual 'vanilla' releases if you've got those) then this should be the theme you hear. It's definitely the one on my copy.

@crimethinker1 Officiality means everything! If you were correct, then Christopher Eccleston would be about the 20th Doctor, because of all the unofficial spinoff material produced in the 90s. If officiality counts for nothing, then Series One would not be "Season 27", it would be named about "Season 37"!

@fenrir721 Season is an American term. The classic series were called series, the new ones are also called series. They just started counting from 1 again with the relaunch.

I personally love how it sounds at about 0:22 - I didn't like how they changed that bit from 2006 onwards

I have to slightly agree with you there. As much as I love Murray Gold's orchestral arrangements of the theme, I'm not a massive fan of the "sweeping" bit at the time you pointed out. Much prefer the punchiness of this version and earlier ones.

Don't know why, but this is bugging me: THAT IS NOT THE SERIES ONE TITLE CARD! Series One and Two had the same logo, but with a silver shield.
