Certainly not. The first 4 sets were great, but even then, Barney-mvg semi final, forgot the year, was significantly better the first 4 sets (talking about 230 combined averages after 4 sets!) From the 5th set onwards the level of play dropped down quite a bit,. mvg barely hit 90 on average 3 sets in a row, smith was more consistent but was nothing extraordinary after the 4th set. Not a special final by any means, apart from the incredible 9 dart leg in second set of course. If this final was played ten times in a row mvg would have won 7, maybe 8 of them, but that is not how it works of course. Smith deserved to win this final obviously.

Kind of a snoozer aside from the first 3 sets...

@@edwells4769 yeah, this final is overrated, it is because of the 9 dart leg and the many 180's in the first few sets, after that it was sloppy by both players.

It's crazy, I know many things this happens for and to many people. It truly comes down to getting that first big major win. Can take 10 years but that first big one causes a landslide of wins.

@@BantonOrg after that second 180 it was already over, shame he didnt get it but we had already been spoiled. Yeah i'm glad he won too, i think it may have been a dominant MVG year if he had won, and Smith might have taken a mental hit from another worlds loss. But now the future and rivalry of these two look promising for 2023.

Mijn mooiste finsle was Barneveld tegen Taylor 7-6 Maar ligt het aan mij of is van Gerwen de laatste jaren wat minder? Ik heb hem op tv heel vaak gemiddelde zien gooien van tussen de 110 en 120? Nu komt hij er niet in de buurt.

@@tropicalpalmtree Although I supported MVG in the final, I always get pissed off by that "bottlejob" comment that some people throw around. First of all, not every competitor who does not win the world championship is automatically a loser. Secondly, Smith already made it to two world championship finals, which means he's world class. The quality was already there, he just needed a smidgeon of luck, and got that against Bunting this year. He was the best player in the final and deservedly world champion.

It really was not a great final, after the 4th set both players threw significantly worse, Smith had the occasional strong leg, and mvg was nowhere. If the 9 darth leg had not happened it would have been forgettable.

@@kiekiek alright ya neggy fuck. I think the reason why it was so great because of how tense some of the legs were when you think one would win they would miss and the other would capitalise. Not all great games have to be high scoring.

Its pressure. Mvg had lost the last 3 games that they played. Despite saying that Smith could not stop him, at a deep level he knew he was in a game and it seemed to get to him.
