I attempt to set a record for the most Dartmoor 365s visited in a single day - a pointless test of endurance! Includes a very cold bivvy wild camp, much floundering around in bogs, and quite a lot of wind noise.

It has recently come to my attention that people have to watch a load of horrible ads in my videos! Sadly I can't turn them off, and make no money from them, either, so feel free to skip and block away!

Beautifully done and I like the way it is a true representation of the getting lost, battle, trudge and fight against the elements that Dartmoor is. Each square holds a different experience and having completed the challenge some of those less than perfect places will draw me back on a brighter day. It is a competition, with yourself of course and the optimum challenge must be completion within a year. It took me two and that was full on. Mostly though we all take from each square exactly what we want; and use our own criteria. My best day - regarding count - was 15, across in the far east but car led rather than foot. The only person I have encountered who completed it within the year used a bicycle off road far more but the mix of modes is another beauty. Well done George, great non-podcast and some fabulous bags and memory jogs.

Thank you! Completing all the squares in 2 years is a real achievement! I love how it encourages you to explore new places and pushes you that little bit further. I'm already planning my next outing!

Gorgeous video. I love how there is a "Wilderness" on the moor. And from what I could see, the name seemed apt! It looked different. An empty space in an empty space is kind of fascinating. Anyway, it's 11.30pm in Melbourne right now. After watching your video, I hope the moor might sneak into my night dreams.... I love your content. Feels good for the soul. GB.

Thank you very much! 'An empty space in an empty space' is, indeed a very odd idea - I hadn't thought of it that way before!

Ahhh George. To be honest I almost find your videos hard to watch now as they're so beautifully made that I start to resent the trivial nonsense I churn out! My Dad, who lives in Devon, is now a huge fan of yours and I get the sense he prefers your videos to mine. To be honest, objectively, I can't blame him. I absolutely loved the bit where you were having an argument between your on screen and off screen self. Anyway, a beautiful video.

Nice one. I get where you're coming from with the wind ...and the bogs around Great Kneeset, it can be a real test of mental endurance sometimes

Yeah, it was the low point of the day. You can tell how grumpy it made me by how little I filmed for that segment!

Wonderful as ever George. At least you got close to Fur Tor, I find I can see her alot on our yomps but never seem to get to her, she's in my sights this year (was supposed to 'do' her on Monday but the weather was horrible. We were up that way (Lynch Tor and Tavy Cleave a year ago to the day pretty much and had cuckoo song all day, I think your walk was a bit earlier in the month so a bit early for them perhaps)! I wonder if you noticed the 'creatures' in Tavy Cleave. I have to say this is the best bit of the moor, it's 'home' to us and where my heart lies. Thank you for another great Podcast (not I know!). Looking forward to the next one (oh and do let present George chat next time, he's OK you know ;) ).

Thank you again! Yes, Fur Tor has a somewhat legendary status as the middle of nowhere - might need an episode of its own! And yep, it was a bit early for the Cuckoos, though there will be one in the next video. Did see the 'creatures' too, so will return for them at some point!

@@thedartmoorpodcast Pleased you spotted them, and you passed close by to a logan stone too (but I bet you knew that 😉😂). Fur Tor haunts me, every time we have been on the N Moor recently I can see her (has to be a her although I know that kind of thing might be frowned upon these days!) peeking at me in the distance, saying 'here I am, come and get me, but I won't make it easy for you'! I hope it isn't a disappointment when we do finally get there 🤣

Oh meant to say, although we take note of which squares we have done on a walk I don't often count them up, however in my spreadsheet (yes honestly!) I have started recording the squares and see that in March we did a 9 miler from Two Bridges up past Wistman's, Brown's House etc and did 9 squares, so not bad (have to be honest though, will often record just having walked through the squares, and not necessarily having seen the 'thing', tut tut 🤣

George, thanks for this and glad you have joined the 365ing clan. Perfect introduction to the joys of D365ing, whilst enjoying the moor! I have no idea what the record is - walking solo, looking at 10 Tors practice routes for my teams years ago I probably did around 35 to 40 squares in a day. But as you rightly point out, slow down, enjoy the moor and it's not a race or even a 'completionist' thing. Hope you continue to enjoy your D365ing! I wish I could describe my opinion about your podcasts (not podcasts!) with a similar elequence to yours. All I can say is that I love everything about them. I identify with so much of your content: so much so that I view you as a kindred spirit. But then aren't all of us - who love and value Dartmoor with a passion - kindred spirits? Thank you, George, and please do keep up your excellent works of art!
