Featuring epic views over the Teign Valley, Abbie Barnes ventures out for a secluded walk from the famed Fingle Bridge, passing the last castle to be built in Britain, Castle Drogo, before heading down to the bottom of the valley to walk alongside the wild River Teign.

What a delightful walk. I really enjoyed that Abbie - thank you for taking me along. Great pathways, superb views, open skies, woods, stream and river - everything a walk should include. Lovely film with fascinatingcommentary.

I did it! I got out of the house and walked through beautiful Nature. You've inspired me, and it suddenly went up to 52F here today, and sunny, so out I went. Got some sun, fresh air, and a stunning view as well.

One of my favourite Dartmoor walks! I first did the walk over 20 years ago and still come back when I can. Your right about autumn being the best time as the colours looking down the gorge are magnificent. You can vary the walk slightly by walking to Drewsteignton and follow a path to the gorge from there or keep following the banks of the river going the other way will take you into Chagford

Mmmmm.... walked along the river bank at Fingle in the height of summer. Very busy at the week ends and, because of the tree canopy, no sun what-so-ever. Really cold. I think a spring walk along that high path might be in order though. Thanks for your efforts.

Thanks Abbie. Nice bit of trail. Parts reminded me of the Ozarks in Arkansas. And you’re right about us and nature. Humans and lichens have a common ancestor back there somewhere.

Definately best done in the winter when there's less leaves on the trees for views down into the valley.

I did the walk in September (17), but you had better weather than me! Although I did it the other way round starting rom the castle and finished with a visit of the castle, which was ok and will be better when it's finished, no doubt? Brought back memories, well filmed!

What's the river Tyne doing on Dartmoor?! Try 'Teen' or even 'Ting' if you wanna go full on Devonshire!
@davedevonlad7402
@davedevonlad7402 Жыл бұрын
TEIGN not bloody "Teen" or "Ting" the river goes to Teignmouth "Teen" or "ting" is not even a word we use in Devon (not normally anyway) Take that from a local lad who is a 4th generation Devonshire lad. Born in Exeter. If you want to go Devonshire DO NOT use "teen" or " ting" as someone from Devon will think you are completely bloody stupid.

We are planning on doing this walk in 2 weeks. Hopefully we can get a good video from it too. You are so natural on the camera. Has it been easy for you from the start? I'm hoping I can learn to be a bit less self conscious.

Amazing video. Can't wait till next Monday. What are the yellow-flowered bushes along the top of the ridge? They appear to be very winter-hardy.
@Chooibah
@Chooibah 6 жыл бұрын
Stephen Pinder I can't be sure without knowing the timestamp but I think you're referring to Gorse. It flowers all year (although much less in autumn and winter), the flowers smell like coconut and are edible, they taste like almonds (albeit slightly bitter). They are very hardy bushes, and really spikey, you'd have a job to get out of one if you fell into it!!
@stephenpinder1903
@stephenpinder1903 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Chooibah. I was guessing it might be gorse but the ones I've seen watching the Open Championship have purple flowers. I thought it was possible there could be different varieties. I wish we had some in my part of the States. They really brighten up the winter and I'd like to have a smell and taste as well.

Doesn't it make everyone mad that all this freedom to roam ...n .wildlife interest. ..is up to landowners .....freedom what freedom

Terry Stephenson So much of our countryside is open for public access, along with 100,000 miles of public footpath network in England. Not sure we have a problem with freedom of access on huge areas of the country’s privately owned land and any visit to national parks shows how popular they are too.
