I'm curious ... at 4:40, is that John playing that bass-y sounding riff on his guitar, as he seems to be? Or was footage just pasted in out of sequence?

It's easy to forget just how extraordinarily rare people like Hall and Oates are. Most famous pop stars might be decent vocalists, fewer still might also be decent instrumentalists, but it's a very rare person that is gifted with exceptional vocals, instrumental skills, and song writing ability. Kudos to these guys.

Seems as though because Daryl had most of the leads and was kind of the front man onstage, a lot of people thought John was just kind of along for the ride back in the day - which was not EVEN the deal, and the raw moments between the two made that very clear in this video. Awesome clip!

John came up with the melodies. He was a huge part of their success.

Thanks for putting this up. It'd be kinda cool if MTV took a week and just ran nothing but old material from their hey day, stuff like this. Younger generations do get exposed to older music through American Idol and the like, so I think it COULD actually get some wide interest. It'd never happen, though...

Everything about this song is brilliant. The suspense chord at 1:13 -- how many "songwriters" with "hits" on the charts nowadays even know how to playa chord like that -- let alone integrate it into a song. I'm not near an instrument but I think it's safe to say this song's in C so that chord sounds like G-C-F (I-4-7) over a B flat Kids, you wannt learn to make music? Study any H&O song till you can play the guitar or keyboard part by ear. AND sing it ....

If I ran a big studio, I would want it to look shabby on the outside. No need to advertise to the riffraff that you're a frequent gathering place for rock stars and have millions of dollars of equipment inside. And who knows ... prolly a nice sized stash of "medicines" to help the rock stars "relax" before a session Also, the way property taxes are assessed, if you own a building, you might want to let the exterior look run down because they might reduce your assessment! Dumb, but true.

oh that natural expression.... a verbal explosion.... no one is ready to hear.... as words show up …. as the notes play... a tone back to say the felt in a way excepted..... oh I love an organ... played which way …. oh so bad... preachers kid heard an organ every Sunday morning..... add the pipes and I am even more happy...… oh always a one with high expectations….. musicians hard to please ….. can any one.... ever please you... are you ever happy ….. with the end...… sang in choir and played the piano …. but never felt good enough …… for the one judging me...… so I danced...… oh lord is any thing ever good enough … for you.... the perfectionist...…. no one is good enough for …… why bother … you contemplate ….. a mix of notes..... to sound as pure as it can.... a voice hitting the right note.... a Doctor ….. an Engineer …… working on something as precise...… probably more important..... than a note hit correctly...… you will not save a life with that perfect note...…. will you..... ???? I admit small town musicians like dancers have a big head …. a dime a dozen...…. like donuts...… have an ego..... deciding the fate of what...….. ? those we are told are.... does that mean they are because we follow them like dogs..... and make them become some thing they are not...…. that is the question.... every one ask … am I good enough..... a title given ….. that says I am..... for how long...… until replaced …. we all are …..

No. It was just advertised all day long on MTV that H&O's new video "Say It Isn't So" would preview that night at midnight. So I stayed up and taped it. Next day...Nothing! No mention that the song had even been played the night before. Very weird. Somewhere I've got a tape(s) of just about everything H&O did on MTV and VH1. Was a huge fan. Saw many concerts. They're still the best!

Sorry...but you're wrong. It wasn't Go Solo that was p reviewed only ONCE (at midnight)....it was Say It Isn't So. I stayed up just to tape this new song as I was so excited to see it., And the guys were made up to look like old men. Very funny!. The next morning I waited and waited for them to show this new video again but it was never mentioned the entire day. Shortly afterwards, it was told that a new video was being made if anyone wants to put it on KZfaq.
