Critics are usually (not all though) talentless/rude/ego driven. Learn at an early age, to attack those with character/skills/integrity to get a few laughs from the equally inept. If highly successful, become shock jocks/lightning rod wits that make millions: by yes, tearing down people that have practiced /honed skills/made their mark on society. In the old days, the big mouth was called out. At the least, was publicly embarrassed/at best took a thrashing in the school yard after classes ended for the day. End of a possible, BRILLIANT career.

He described his relationship with his partner as a great working relationship, like a co-worker you get along well with at work, and you know you work well together, but you don't really hang out with outside of the office. Doesn't mean you dislike each other, it just means you are good work partners who have your own lives outside of the working relationship.

@@estelleschneider9033 yes! I really liked how quickly Daryl moved to point out John's contributions. Was it a perfect 50-50 split? Probably not, and so what? I doubt they would've stayed together all these years if John Oates wasn't bringing his own considerable talents to the table. He doesn't get nearly enough recognition for his role in the group, so kudos to Daryl for always backing him up.

I believe the way that John and Daryl have their friendship sort of "set up" for lack of a better descriptive, is very smart and healthy. Think about it. These two guys have known each other since they we're around seventeen years old. They have been very successful and have had to tour excessively to assure that they'd stay relevant in an industry that loves you one day then the next it's as if, who are you? Kind of mentality. So consider that these two guys are individuals with separate interest separate taste separate ideologies etc. I'm sure they have many in common of course other wise the success they have would not be so monumental. Yet since they realize they each have their own lives outside of the commodity known as "Hall & Oates" they, realizing this assure themselves of engaging in their own lives and when it's called for come back together and perform as we the public know them, a duo. I have seen many instances of either of them on stage doing their solo thing and also jamming with other artist. It's very smart I think. They pursue interest outside of their duo and also they spend generous amounts of time away from one another which is why I believe their relationship has been what apparently seems healthy. You never hear of scandals between these two throughout all the many years they've been together. So it's a smart thing overall how they approach their friendship/work. I believe when you give time away from one another you avoid many spats that can and do arise simply because your the one that's just there to receive the brunt of it. How many fallouts have occurred in famous bands due to just burn out? This is smart and healthy the way they've handled their relationship.

A couple of my close friends worked for Daryl several years ago, and I know a couple of his band members and crew. All of them say Daryl and John are completely different people but get along very well. One of my friends who worked for them off and on for more than 20 years says he's never heard them argue. He says they really are like brothers, that they're different people with different lives, but they work together musically very well, support each other's outside interests, and would pretty much do anything for each other.

Brilliant stick-handling by Hall! He rolled with the Stern punches. I’ve tried hard to look for endearing qualities in Stern over the years. He pushes over boundary lines with little regard for the shock waves it does cause. I think he’s funny, but the lack of tact goes too far.

Howard Stern can be so jerkish. They are equally talented. Talking to someone everyday doesn’t define camaraderie. They have been friends since 17 therefore they can easily not talk and always pick up where they left off. I enjoy their music. I was a DJ for 15 years and always played them on our “ urban station.” Every time they come to Minnesota, I go to their concert. I think they should do a remake of duets album with soul singers Angela Winbush, Jaguar Wright, Fantasia. It would be awesome!

5 min of trying to bait Darryl to respond in a hostile manner. But he's a class act and kept his kool and dignity responding in a quick fire honest manner with a touch of of humour. Of course they're not gonna hang out everyday!! They've known each other since 17. They know each other intrinsically. And they have their own lives & families.

My very first favorite song is a Hall and Oates song: Sara Smile. I was five years old and just leaving the beach in the back of a truck (the 70s man). I still melt whenever I hear those first few guitar notes. Music is life.

Unfortunately I’ve known people like Stern and his side kick. They get their jollies out of taking others down, but sometimes they meet someone above board who knows exactly what they are doing and will not engage in their folly. Hall has the respect of not just his fans but of other musicians who are in his league. Those other two are left with empty hands.

People who don't play music don't understand the relationship we have with other band members. Just because we don't hang out doesn't mean we don't like each other. How many people do you work beside at your place of employment do you hang with after hours? You can still like them and get along well... In fact sometimes it's because we don't get together socially that we keep such a good working relationship. It's like any other job or activity; some you like, some you don't, but tolerate because you know that together, it works.

One of the few interviewees on whom Howard Stern failed to score a single point. Howard pressed on relentlessly, but it became clear he'd have better odds trying to catch a fart in a Mason jar during a hurricane than getting Daryl Hall to become defensive or angry.
