The chase starts.
Now Available on Tubi: bit.ly/DasBootonTubi
It is 1942 and the German submarine fleet is heavily engaged in the so called "Battle of the Atlantic" to harass and destroy English shipping. With better escorts of the Destroyer Class, however, German U-Boats have begun to take heavy losses. "Das Boot" is the story of one such U-Boat crew, with the film examining how these submariners maintained their professionalism as soldiers, attempted to accomplish impossible missions, while all the time attempting to understand and obey the ideology of the government under which they served.

In a way it is incidental because the movie was based on Buchheim's book: But for a movie it is just genius to have the rookie war correspondent character aboard since it provides an organic opportunity to explain concepts (e.g. wolf pack tactics) to that character and thus, the audience.

I think the uboats could do 18 - 21 knots on the surface depending on weather. The convoys could not go faster then the slowest ship .... maybe as slow as 10 knots or worse. Big ocean liners when alone could do say maybe 30 knots or maybe more so those were a hard catch.
