At first I want to thank everyone for 1000 subscriptions, this is my special for all my loyal fans and friends who made this possible and motivate me every day to continue!
When I started to upload songs last year I didn´t know if anyone will like them or not, but as I see it makes many people happy and also interested in history and Germany :)
I will continue and show you more great german songs, and once I uploaded all important ones, I will upload historical songs from other nations as well! Have a great day, you all encourage me so much it´s unbelieveable :)
______________________________
A little announcement before you read the info:
The Lied der Deutschen is not forbidden, neither the first nor any other verse of it!!! It´s a myth many people believe in. The part:
"Deutschland über alles" doesn´t mean that Germany stands above other nations, you have to see it in the context of the time in 1841.
Germany wasn´t an united nation, but a collection of many states and an united fatherland was meant to be above any other political goal of that time. If you continue to listen to the next lines you will see, the author doesn´t want war, violence or superiority against other nations. He demands noble deeds, to be proud of the own culture, women and freedom etc.
To me it is a lovely song and I wished all 3 verses would be sung.
The "Deutschlandlied" (English: "Song of Germany", German pronunciation: [ˈdɔʏtʃlantˌliːt]; also known as "Das Lied der Deutschen", or "The Song of the Germans"), or part of it, has been the national anthem of Germany since 1922, except in East Germany, whose anthem was "Auferstanden aus Ruinen" ("Risen from Ruins") from 1949 to 1990.
Since World War II and the fall of Nazi Germany, only the third stanza has been used as the national anthem. The stanza's beginning, "Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit" ("Unity and Justice and Freedom") is considered the unofficial national motto of Germany, and is inscribed on modern German Army belt buckles and the rims of some German coins.
The music is the hymn "Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser", written in 1797 by the Austrian composer Joseph Haydn as an anthem for the birthday of Francis II, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire and later of Austria. In 1841, the German linguist and poet August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben wrote the lyrics of "Das Lied der Deutschen" as a new text for that music, counterposing the national unification of Germany to the eulogy of a monarch, lyrics that were considered revolutionary at the time.
The song is also well known by the beginning and refrain of the first stanza, "Deutschland, Deutschland über alles" ("Germany, Germany above all else"), but this has never been its title. The line "Germany, Germany above all else" meant that the most important goal of 19th-century German liberal revolutionaries should be a unified Germany which would overcome loyalties to the local kingdoms, principalities, duchies and palatines (Kleinstaaterei) of then-fragmented Germany. Along with the flag of Germany, it was one of the symbols of the March Revolution of 1848.
In order to endorse its republican and liberal tradition, the song was chosen as the national anthem of Germany in 1922, during the Weimar Republic. West Germany adopted the "Deutschlandlied" as its official national anthem in 1952 for similar reasons, with only the third stanza sung on official occasions. Upon German reunification in 1990, only the third stanza was confirmed as the national anthem.

Deutschland, Deutschland über alles,
Über alles in der Welt,
Wenn es stets zu Schutz und Trutze
Brüderlich zusammenhält,
Von der Maas bis an die Memel,
Von der Etsch bis an den Belt -
Deutschland, Deutschland über alles,
Über alles in der Welt!
Deutsche Frauen, deutsche Treue,
Deutscher Wein und deutscher Sang
Sollen in der Welt behalten
Ihren alten schönen Klang,
Uns zu edler Tat begeistern
Unser ganzes Leben lang -
Deutsche Frauen, deutsche Treue,
Deutscher Wein und deutscher Sang!
Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit
Für das deutsche Vaterland!
Danach lasst uns alle streben
Brüderlich mit Herz und Hand!
Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit
Sind des Glückes Unterpfand -
Blüh’ im Glanze dieses Glückes,
Blühe, deutsches Vaterland!

Maybe because they’re afraid of retribution from some far right-or-left groups that’ve desecrated several war memorials? Or, more likely, they just don’t want even the smallest possibility of being called a Neo-Nazi, even if it’s by a utter moron and it doesn't have any logical base. A stigma produced by a dictatorship can be a *powerful* thing.

@@abercrombieblovs2042 it's stupid, the song was written in 1841, almost a hundred years before the Nazis even existed. And became the national anthem in 1922, during the weimar Republic which was the most Liberal nation at the time and is in many ways more Liberal than modern Germany. And the west Germans were perfectly OK with it 1952 as well. Its only more recently they started to get silly with these things...

The first Stanza is about German unification over everything, not about Germany being superior over everybody else. At the time the many kings and monarchs of German speaking territories acted out of selfish ambitions, standing in the way of a unified Germany. The author stresses that the unification of Germany is more important than everything else in the world for us Germans, more important than selfish ambitions. Nothing racist or so about it.

Especially, If you are from Germany since this country has an extremely interesting, long and eventful history. As a german, you can still be proud of your architecture, philoposhy, literature, science etc. and you can even admire your fatherland's history due to the fact that Germany has an eventful history as I've mentioned before.

@@jimlyon7276 Such ridiculous NONSENSE. Go fuck yourself pretending there is a nation or ethnic group on this earth that hasn't harmed other people or committed some type of atrocity at some point in history. You're really ignorant and nobody needs to earn anything from your arrogant self-righteous ass. I shouldn't have to say it, but since you seem to be one of these weak-minded doofs that believes everything CNN tells you, the United States is probably one of the LEAST racist countries on earth and provides the MOST different types of opportunities for success for people of all races, in particular black people. Probably most of the worlds most rich and successful and famous black people come from the United States of America. Without the United States of America, there would be no Michael Jordan, no Orpah Winfrey, no Barack Obama and no Jay Z and Beyonce. As far as Germany goes, they did NOT start WWI, which the seeds of the unfairness in which they were treated were part of the reason WWII happened. Secondly, the Third Reich was only 10 years out of Germany's long history. Should I remind you that some of the worlds greatest composers and artists and thinkers came from Germany? Do you know who Johann Sebastian Bach is? Should any nation be judged forever on just 10 years of its history? Go read a REAL history book sometime. You need it because you're full of ignorant brainwashing.

Nah thats for a different reason. German woman, loyalty, wine ......... and inspire US to noble deeds. Us refers in this case to GERMAN MEN and exclude women, because an enumeration cant inspire itself ( german wine cant inspire german wine to do noble deeds). The enumeration itsef can for some be a problem, to list a human being together with songs and wine. Many say thats feminisim and nitpicky but in this case I agree that its not fitting our modern times.

Sorry for my english, but i have to clear something up for you guys. Germany above all doesnt mean that germany is better than other countrys in its original meaning. This song was written when germany was separatet in 300 small states. Deutschland did not exist at this time. The Songwriter expresses the deep wish most of the people had back then: to unite all the states and found Deutschland. Deutschland, Deutschland above all (the small states).

@@mariehuguen4332 this Version with all 3 verses/stanzas used to be Our former anthem. Our current one contains only the third verse/stanza, the first two ones got deleted. "They" say this is because of the line "Deutschland Über alles" (germany above All), but it became clear, that the lines "von der Maas bis an die Memel, von der etsch bis an die belt" (from the Maas to the Memel, from the Etsch to the Belt) are the problematic ones, because they illustrate the tremendous loss of territory, which germany had hold until the end of ww2

One thing i very stunned from Germans are how fast they can develope from Ruins into Great Country. They faced one world war yet turn into Powerful country only in five Years. And faced another world war but turn into another Big Economy in 10 years (even the East one was the best example country for Warsaw Pact members). May God bless Germany and their culture. -regards from Indonesian.

Thank you so much for this work and the valuable context you provide. There is one thing. I redd that the original painting of the Hambacher Fest had the colors of the flag the other way round- black, red, gold from bottom to top. It is in school books that the whole painting was colored in more heavily and the colors presented as if read from top to bottom (please see Dr. Klaus Maurer , 2013).

Want to understand *WHY* and *HOW* world war 2 happened? Understand these quotes --------------> "Germany's unforgivable crime before the second world war was her attempt to extricate her economic power from the world's trading system and to create her own exchange mechanism which would deny world finance its opportunity to profit" - Winston Churchill, letter to Lord Boothby *** "Germany becomes to powerful. We have to crush it." - Winston Churchill to US-General Robert E. Wood, November 1936 *** "The enemy is the German Reich and not Nazism, and those who still haven't understood this, haven't understood anything." - Churchill's chief counselor Robert Lord Vansittart to foreign minister Lord Halifax, September 1940 *** "The war wasn't only about abolishing fascism, but to conquer sales markets. We could have, if we had intended so, prevented this war from breaking out without doing one shot, but we didn't want to." - Winston Churchill to Truman, March 1946 *** "During the entire period of the telegram war, in 1939-1940, lengthy negotiations took place between the German and British foreign ministries, in which the British suggested to cancel the war if Germany would reinstate the gold standard and reintroduce interest rates." - Lieutenant-Colonel J. Creagh Scott, 11th August 1947, Chelsea Town Hall, London *** "Hitler, this uneducated and elementary man, has restored thanks to his natural intuition and even against the technical opinion of Schacht, an economic system of a very dangerous kind. [...] He has eliminated international and private finance, something so completely counter-revolutionary (i.e. anti-Bolshevist) that, as you already see, he has by means of magic, as it were, radically eliminated unemployment among more than seven million technicians and workers. If Hitler reached this despite all the bourgeois economists who surround him, then he was quite capable, in the absence of the danger of war, of applying his system also to peace time production... There is only one solution - war." - Christian Rakovsky, the Soviet emissary to Paris and the liaison between the Soviet elite and high finance, when questioned by the GPU officer Gabriel Kuzmin in Moscow on 26 January 1938 *** "We made a monster, a devil out of Hitler. Therefore we couldn't disavow it after the war. After all, we mobilized the masses against the devil himself. So we were forced to play our part in this diabolic scenario after the war. In no way we could have pointed out to our people that the war only was an economic preventive measure." - US foreign minister James Baker, 1992 *** "Not the political doctrine of Hitler has hurled us into this war. The reason was the success of his increase in building a new economy. The roots of war were envy, greed and fear." - Major General J.F.C. Fuller, historian, England *** “Germany issued debt-free and interest-free money from 1935 on, which accounts for Germany’s startling rise from the depression to a world power in five years. The German government financed its entire operations from 1935 to 1945 without gold, and without debt. It took the entire Capitalist and Communist world to destroy the German revolution, and bring Europe back under the heel of the Bankers.” - Sheldon Emry, Billions for the Bankers, Debts for the People (1984)
