They go out and block people who are using the sidewalks as road lanes - it's an absolute epidemic over there, and it looks like it's becoming one here too. As for driving the wrong way, i hate to say it but maybe more cameras are needed. I'm no fan of surveillance, but I'd rather that than dying because some loser decides to drive straight at me and there's nowhere I can go.

I wonder what percentage are people from a country that drives on the other side of the road though. It's an easy enough mistake if you have only just started driving over here.

Years ago I did the maths on driving to work in peak hour(s). I noticed that with zooming around, overtaking etc. I gained about 10 to 30seconds, absolute tops would be 1 to 3 minutes. I then stopped doing this.

@@kimsland999i also found, if i drive on a 40 side road instead of the 70 main (but 40 has no traffic lights) i get a faster run. drive safer/smarter instead of the gps "first line i find" option . but yeah, a mantra of mine - speeding just makes you catch the even slower congestion further ahead, so your creating self rage just by trying to push past people.

I can only check if there's no other cars on the road I'm on, how am I supposed to know if there's any cars on any other roads planning to turn into the street?

This "entitled" behaviour is very common in inner west & inner south Sydney, amongst other places. @tarlcabot1963 I'm 74 and have the equivalent of 3.2 million km of driving (a lot of machinery driving where precision is important in that) and 100% of concentration with driving is important. I've had 7 encounters with kangaroos. Had 3 taxis sideswipe me when trying to force a lane change (nowhere to go and someone right up my tailpipe) and when I was young, and totally stupid, 2 trees driving while tired. 98/99% of concentration can injure or kill someone and badly damage cars. I still regularly do 300 to 400 km round trips in a day and am still surprised with people closing up on me at in excess of 140/150 kph on the highway. I have my cruise control locked in at 100 kph so it is rare that I even get to pass a double trailer road train in inland Queensland.

It is irrespective how many years of extra driving you have done. What makes a good driver (even a young driver) is patience, understanding road laws; driving conditions; personal ability; car/truck ability; road conditions. And clearly the environment (where kangaroos in rural areas are a concern). I notice 99% of drivers love driving in the pack, but even in peak hour or on wide country roads, you can leave a gap - the old space cushion concept which doesn't get taught as much anymore. Watching (checking mirrors twice!) and predicting outcomes tends to put me well away from any 'accidents'.

More than 90 in a 60 zone is speed dangerous / loss of licence". Delivery timeframes were simply NOT POSSIBLE if you were obeying the speed limits. (First day on the job, guy showing me the ropes pulls out across three lanes of oncoming traffic (WTF?) "it's a truck - they'll STOP").
