No. It WAS recommended back in the day, but it has become road law that when you LEAVE a roundabout you signal left so hopefully the other road users if they aren't retards, will understand you are leaving the intersection, and therefore, must give way.

It does sound like the indictor wasn't applied until they were already in the roundabout, however when the DC driver indicated is technically irrelevant, as the rule is pretty much the same in all states that you must give way to any vehicles already on the roundabout before you enter so therefore the other car would be at fault. What worried me more is that the DC driver appeared to hit the horn well before the brakes! either that or someones done the old horn connected to the brake light gag on them...

You then have to shift down, through all the gears, as the gear shift is sequential. You can't move till you do, and often, the gears will not shift easily if you've stopped in a very high gear. Had plenty of experience in been cut off by very bad drivers, and emergency braking, with little time to shift down gears. Very hard to change down after you have stopped.

This is why I always hang back until I'm sure the car is going straight, because maybe half the idiots on the road don't know how to do it. It's not hard people - grab a rule book like they give to 17 year olds to learn to drive and look it up.

Well, on occasions, in peak hour traffic, I will have blinkers on indicating that my wish is to merge right, plus signal with my right arm, horizontal out the window. Should the driver in the right hand lane permit me to diverge, profuse waving as a thank you follows! Road laws do state that it is mandatory to use hand signals, unless signals are fitted, then the hand signals are optional.

My sister is normally as humble , open minded, willing to take on negative feedback type of person that's willing to learn, but to try to teach her how to drive was a nightmare. She'd shriek at me like a boiling tea kettle calling me every vulgar name under the sun when I'd try to give her practical suggestions during her driving lessons. I couldn't handle the aggravation after a few drives so I referred her to a professional instructor. All she did was accuse him of ripping her off & I tried to communicate to her that he's not ripping you off, he's trying to educate you to drive safely & properly which takes lots of lessons. The day she went for her license she didn't even get out of the carpark before the assessor told her that she's failed because she drove out into traffic when there wasn't enough room to safely do so. That humbled her a bit...hopefully.
