Databricks Delta Sharing provides an open solution to securely share live data from your lakehouse to any computing platform. Data recipients don’t have to be on the Databricks platform or on the same cloud or cloud at all. Data providers can share live data, without replicating or moving it to another system. Recipients benefit from always having access to the latest version of data and can quickly query shared data using tools of their choice for BI, analytics, and machine learning, reducing time-to-value. Data providers can centrally manage, govern, audit and track usage of the shared data on one platform.

Because a large number of consultant companies are getting paid to promote it. Well that and cause it makes sense to use some times as the data layer and then use Databricks as the ETL layer.

@@barath4545 True. Snowflake has put a lot of money in marketing. Not so much with Databricks (who has a better product). Databricks needs to step up their sales and marketing game.

@@barath4545 in my organization we're doing exactly that. However, people are now starting to realize that maybe Snowflake is no longer a needed additional cost.

Great demo! Thanks! :) Can I ask a few questions? 1. Can I use a delta sharing protocol and apply it to a private corporate hadoop file system(local file)? I'm thinking of changing server side source. 2. The provider's data should be a delta lake table? Can it be just a local parquet file? 3. Do you think a delta sharing is useful to when I'm not using a cloud storage?

Thanks for the demo. Can I ask 2 quick questions: 1. when we share the data in delta sharing, the data is copied to the recipient side, or the data is still only residing in provider side? If the latter is correct, since the data needs to move through network, will this cause any performance issues? 2. delta sharing only shares delta tables or other tables as well?

1. Not sure, but it depends on the case. Mostly just sharing, but you may also do something with this data using python etc., so I guess that you may save this data 2. It shares data sets, ML models and notebooks
