This is what it's like dating Dutch men too🤣It was definitely a culture shock for the both of us: no Valentine's Days, no grand romantic gestures, I had to "train" him to give me compliments, etc. Coming from a more or less traditional Cuban household, my mom had /LOTS of issues dealing with us going Dutch for a few years and it taking 6 years to finally get married. I love that some of the same pick-up lines that are considered corny and over-used in the US are also considered that way in the Netherlands. A couple of examples that come to mind are "Do you come here often?" and "did it hurt..... when you fell from heaven?" I've seen both of these on Dutch TV shows and as you would expect, the response is laughter or "are you serious?"
