It seems like comparing this to YWGWYW, this has more actual notes, while I think YWGWYW is noisier. Not that I think it makes either album worse, and this album definitely has its noisy parts. This was just something I noticed, thoughts?
@whiners1313 жыл бұрын
@@horse_dog True, YWGWYW has that constant drone in most of its tracks. Even Daughters themselves stated that Self-titled was their interpretation of "Classic Rock". Whereas YWGWYW is more horror and anxiety based music kinda like Bauhaus or early Misfits if we keep the 70's analogy going.

I have been on a virtual tour of their entire output. I started with the 2002 4 minute single, through Canada Songs and Hell Songs, and now I'm here. Unfortunately my lunch break will be over before I'll get all the way through their newest one, but it's been really fascinating to listen to their development in such a concentrated way. 100% agree. This is, hands down, their best work. They are my all time fav band and this is their peak imo.
I got put onto these guys when a mate's 'cool' scene boyfriend at the time heard me listen to early Dillinger Escape Plan and said "eurgh, this sucks, listen to _these guys_ instead". I hated them. They sounded _like_ what I was listening to at the time, but in my opinion, much worse. I still don't like Canada Songs or 2002 EP, but truthfully, I don't like early Dillinger Escape Plan any more either, but, I kinda much prefer (unpopular opinion) everything after Miss Machine, so I was hoping that Daughters sound might have matured/evolved (for lack of better words) like DEP's had. This album was a 10/10 for me at release. 10 years on, I've probably overplayed it down to an 8/10. But, I _have_ been pretty consistently bumping this record for the last 10 years. Other than my friends, I've never heard anyone mention how killer this album is, and have never heard anyone namedrop Daughters. Heard news that they were releasing another album and I was like, if this new album is anything close to the 2010 album, its gonna be a 10/10. Boom, again, another straight 10/10 on release... except for this time around my tiny fragile ego feels a little more validated with it garnering mainstream-ish critical praise. 2 Random thoughts whilst typing the above bollocks. The effects on this album remind me of a keychain I had in the 90s that would play special effects like explosions, machineguns and rayguns... in the fucking best possible way. The First Supper is about the movie Ravenous... which is not only a killer reference, but a fucking killer movie!!!
