12 Important Unspoken Social Rules You Should Know. 1. Don't interrupt when someone is talking. 2. Don't judge someone by their appearance. Many people have missed opportunities as a result of it. 3. Always respect someone's personal space. 4. Never assume something about someone. Talk to them if you care. 5. Apologize when you're wrong. Ego never adds anything valuable to you. Rather it subtracts. 6. Don't talk badly about someone behind their back. It is a way of telling the audience you will do the same about them. 7. Be honest, even if it's hard. And say No when it is not comfortable to you, even if it hurts. 8. Don't gossip or spread rumours, even on social media. 9. Don't stare or make inappropriate comments about people. 10. Treat others how you want to be treated. 11. Offer help when you can, but do not be compelled to do so. 12. Don't let your anger control your actions. Thank you so much for Reading through❤.. Just sharing!

*THIS MOVIE:* *Daughters of the Dust* is a 1991 independent film written, directed and produced by Julie Dash and is the first feature film directed by an African-American woman distributed theatrically in the United States. Set in 1902, it tells the story of three generations of Gullah (also known as Geechee) women in the Peazant family on Saint Helena Island as they prepare to migrate off the island, out of the Southern United States, and into the North. The film gained critical praise for its lush visuals, Gullah dialogue and non-linear storytelling. The cast features Cora Lee Day, Alva Rogers, Barbara-O, Trula Hoosier, Vertamae Grosvenor, and Kaycee Moore and was filmed on St. Helena Island in South Carolina. Daughters of the Dust was selected for the Sundance 1991 dramatic competition. Director of photography Arthur Jafa won the top cinematography prize. The film is also known for being the first by an African American woman to gain a general theatrical release.

This movie popped up on my home page…I definitely needed to see this movie since both my grandmothers had already passed when I was born. I have always longed for the ancestor love displayed in this movie and now I have just realized that I am my ancestors! My family really don’t talk about our family history and so I have made up in my mind that one day when my son has children I will be the best grandmother! I no longer will blame anyone instead I will start the legacy!!! This movie was so powerful and I’m so happy I saw it ❤️❤️❤️ Love&Peace

This movie is showing the quilts, fishing nets, custom foods, religion, Creole/kreole language, families, migration of the Gullah to the city and the Gullah GeeChees who stayed on the Sea Islands to maintain this rich culture that connects us to Mother Africa. The Gullah GeeChee still fight to preserves their culture and to keep greedy developers from taking their land through "Heirs Inheritance." The Gullah GeeChee language consist of 35 Central and West African languages mixed in with the Southern English of that time. Like Jamaica, they speak Patois.

Suddenly a friend puts me on to a soldier's story (1984) and I hear the "geechee" line sampled in Immortal Technique's "industrial revolution". I did some digging and found out they were the same Gullah group Lorenzo Turner dealt with in his "Africanisms in the Gullah Dialect" (1949)

I watched this movies in 1982 as a Freshman at Rutgers University. I remember the author "Sistah Soujour" when they showed this film on campus. I am almost 60 years old now. I didn't know it then, but after my Gullah GeeChee Grandmother died in 1984, I went down to John's Island and Wadmalaw Island, South Carolina to learn about my self sufficient Gullah GeeChee roots. I now know they were talking about me and my paternal - generational ancestry. GULLAH FUH OONUH = GULLAH FOR YOU.

What an amazing way to meet the extraordinary cast and connect with the ancestral legacy of Alkebulan via a libation ritual.

The story of flying Africans has been passed down from generation to generation since slavery-a secret, suppressed gift of our ancestors. While this myth has evolved over the years, it continues to be the source of imagination that depicts freedom, new futures, and returning to Africa. Rooted in the history of Igbo Landing-a site on St. Simon’s Island, in Georgia, where enslaved people brought from Nigeria revolted and walked together into the marshy waters, rather than be sold into slavery-these stories became both a truth that enabled survival and an oral archive of resistance

Sovereignty is a remedial right that comes into effect only when two further conditions are met-the legitimacy of the regime under which the group lives fails systematically and there are no viable sub-statist forms of realizing independence available, including internal forms of autonomy such as federalism When he donned a viceroy’s uniform, he transfigured an emblem of imperium into a symbol of black power. The act derived its force from the fact that colonized subjects were regularly forbidden from wearing uniforms and carrying swords without permission from colonial officials

I saw this memorable masterpiece at a small venue in Seattle on Pike street. I think I was 21 ys ole. The critics were harsh. They reduced it to a superficial glossy attempt to make art. They said the women were always posing as if in a Jessica Mcclintock prom dress. At the time I had no understanding of this. comment. Until I moved to SF. My loft was a few blocks where I discovered her shop. It was then I realized that it was meant as an insult. However her shop vas elegant hand made pieces. My neighbor works there as well. So I think the joke's on the critic's. This movie is refined, an dignified.

Thank you for your brilliant story and movie, Ms. Julie Dash, and for the gorgeous cinematography, Mr. Jaffa! Beautiful on more levels than I would have imagined, until viewing. This breathed open my parts long forgotten and silent. It gently, gratefully stirred memories of talking Sankofa drums behind and ahead for me, the immeasurable, shady green Beaufort swampland that surrounded the islands it made of the junked car at every dirt intersection, and the sun covered Edisto heartbreak the stinging sea wind helped blow through me, again all swirled laughing in unstoppable ocean waves. This, for me, is that magical kind of movie. Bravo, and many thanks.

Lorenzo Dow Turner first immersed himself into the Gullah Geechee Culture in 1932: Sapelo Island, Harris Neck, Ossabaw Island, Pin Point, Skidaway, and Tybee Island in Georgia; and Daufuskie Island, Hilton Head Island, St. Phillips Island, Paris Island, St. Helena Island, Lady's Island, John's Island, Wadmalaw Island, Edisto Island, McClellanville, and Georgetown in South Carolina. The Sea Islands are a chain of tidal and barrier islands on the Atlantic Ocean coast of the Southeastern United States. Numbering over 100, they are located between the mouths of the Santee and St. Johns Rivers along the coast of South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida Daughters of the Dust (1991) is an evocative, subtly mythic film studying memory, diaspora and heritage through the voices of its many female characters

What a gorgeous film, I wish there were more like it but perhaps the fact that it is in a league of its own makes it all the more special. Shout out to Cohen Media for preserving this gorgeous piece of art. Fun fact about this film: Acclaimed filmmaker Wong Kar-Wai saw this film and was so blown away by its masterful cinematography he offered its DP (cinematographer) Arthur Jafa a job on his highly anticipated film In the Mood for Love. Jafa turned down the opportunity and his job went to Christopher Doyle. In the Mood for Love went on to be considered one of the greatest Asian films ever made and was one of the most successful film the director made. Arthur later said he didn't really regret the decision because it's cool to imagine an alternate reality but he enjoys the work he is currently doing. He also turned down White Men Can't Jump because he didn't like the title.

The characters all symbolize the so many voices of our psyche. The boat that brought those in chains, now the vehicle of freedom is strong. The scars we all hide behind. The journey we all believe will bring freedom from the chains. Or of those that walked on water back home.

This is a movie you would have to watch more than once. There's so many messages on a deeper level, it's hard to fully grasp the meaning of the first time around but it's so interesting that I wouldn't mind watching it for a second time. You know how movies kind of go right over your head and your just like whatever because there wasnt anything that grab your attention anyway so you keep it pushing, well i can't say the same for this movie, bit only does i reveal alot about history but the i feel like theres a different way of interpreting, if you can understand that. Like the story about the ancestors going into the lake in chains, but didn't return, because the had a place they were going to. They had a destination and they stood on the foundation of returning home no matter the circumstances

The Sea Islands of the Carolinas, where they met, were filled with a black folk of primitive type, touched and moulded less by the world about them than any others outside the Black Belt. Their appearance was uncouth, their language funny, but their hearts were human and their singing stirred men with a mighty power…The songs are indeed the siftings of centuries; the music is far more ancient than the words, and in it we can trace here and there signs of development.” (The Souls of Black Folk, 250-254)

When she said "don't nobody want no dead crab" i felt that! In more ways than one! Until i left Charleston i never ate crabs that didn't die in the seasoning! 😆 The ppl here in the low country of south carolina thought i was crazy lol. My grandmother had a cast iron cauldron in her backyard that had a fire lit under it and she seasoned and cooked them there, clamping on to the side of the pot! I miss the fellowship of our family at her house that my grandfather built with his own 2 hands. This was beautifully done

"Daughters of the Dust" is a visually stunning, poetic masterpiece that immerses viewers in the rich culture of the Gullah people. The film's powerful imagery and evocative language create a dreamlike atmosphere, capturing the essence of ancestral memory and identity. Julie Dash's direction crafts each frame like a painting, while the lyrical dialogue resonates deeply, making it an unforgettable cinematic experience.
