Its annoying because that is what my mom does to me. I clean the house top to bottom while watching my 4 year old sister. To the point were everyone says that i am her mother. But then she gets to saying how i do nothing around the house. Now i dont do anything around the house. I dont clean i don't cook i dont nanny

@@RJ71409 There's a lot of ways that blind people can learn to type. There's an entire system dedicated to facilitating blind people on all types of technology these days. They can use talk to text, read the keys with brail, or simply memorize where each key is with the ability to hear the computer vocally read back whatever was typed.

Disabled parents can still teach their children to communicate. ASL can be very easy to learn for younger ones. Of course these kids are frustrated - they don't completely understand ASL or their parents' methods of communication. Why should they respect parents who don't care enough to understand them?

The dad was kinda gaslighting Melissa- He kept saying that he wishes she communicated more with him, which is him indirectly saying it’s Melissa’s fault for not talking. And when he listed the activities he wanted to do with her, it was all biased. The activities were all taking care of her sisters and teaching them ASL, He just kept pushing the parenthood to her. This really is hard for her. I wish the future treats her better

That’s true. Just look at the Duggars. They chose to have 19 kids, but their oldest girls were the ones who raised their younger siblings and cleaned the house, cooked for everyone, etc etc. All the mom did was birth them and supposedly nursed them for 6 months. Heck, their oldest daughter Jana is around my age (I’m 31) and still lives at home taking care of siblings. Those poor girls never got to have normal childhoods or be normal teenagers 😔

@@Nini_473 yeah, there’s an actual term people used to refer to it “eldest daughter syndrome”, and it’s basically when the eldest girl in the family ends up parenting her younger siblings (and even sometimes older if her elder siblings are assigned male at birth) if they are around 3 years younger

Unfortunately, it's very common. I have six younger siblings and my mom always expected that I'm always there to help her. I was the one listening to her problems while I just bucket up my feelings and couldn't tell somebody about my problems. I love my mom and my siblings, but it's definitely not easy being the oldest sibling.

I feel like the parents didn't realize how bad it was for the older sister. They can't hear them constantly screaming. They have no clue how hard it is to hear that all day everyday. Hearing screaming children all day is extremely stressful and they don't grasp how it impacts someone's mind.

It makes me livid. My mom's disabled and she's used me sometimes, it's easy to rely on someone you know won't deny you. But when I told my mom how I felt she realized and she felt horrible. She apologizes any time she asks me to do something that might be difficult to me, she's constantly thanking me she makes it CLEAR she appreciates me and my efforts to help

@@ChazoAnwah My mother was born and raised in Spanish, and when she was 18 or 19 my mother immigrated to the U.S. Myself and my younger brother were born there and were raised using primarily English, leading to is knowing little Spanish. Least to say that parties with other family members who don’t know much English is awkward.

The mother thought the other relatives were watching the younger daughters when they cruised. But obviously dear Melissa absolutely held the brunt of the real work needed. The mother liked to believe it was an exaggeration but I can fully see it was not. Hope Melissa is very happy on her own.

Sadly, Melissa’s case is more common than people really think. Most teenagers are expected to get jobs and take care of their younger sibling instead of being able to enjoy their teenage years

"3rd parent" as in practically the ONLY parent. She missed her entire teen-hood. Unfortunately, people WILL experience teen-hood at SOME point. Sometimes not til their mid-20's or 30's, but it WILL manifest. I've never seen that end well.

They should have teached their kids, or not even have more kids knowing they wouldnt be able to take care of them. My parents always were sick, they have many health issues and had have msny surgeries but they NEVER let me down as parents, they were kind but firm, respectful but responsable. Even when my mom had emergency surgery and was in pain, she never let my older sibling bare her responsabilities.

It is possible if Melissa really hadn’t communicated this clearly. People are often blind to personal issues even when those issues are obvious to others. Also, it struck me that Melissa was so focused on helping because of the compassion she had for her parents predicament that she’d never clearly expressed her own pain in the process to keep from adding to her parents stress.

It is not only them expecting eldest sibling(s) to chip in to help in any way possible. I have seen it everywhere. I am glad Melissa managed to get the burden off and she is mature to be willing to let bygones be bygones. Bless her heart! Both parents should be commended for willing to try and try to do what Jo is recommending

I'm really glad for Jo. She used peaceful, calm discipline and love. Now the kids have their parents back. For those who think the parents should have known better, I want to share this: I'm hearing but took ASL in school. One thing I learned that surprised me was that because they can't talk with most people, they are often REALLY out of the loop in terms of societal expectations and even values. It's harder to know what's "obvious" when what's obvious to others was taught to those people very young but not to the Deaf people, since they couldn't interact. So it's really sad about how everything was when Jo/ Super Nanny got there, but it's not as obvious for some Deaf people. Plus they were really open-minded and listened to Jo really well. That's wonderfully amazing! I hope they're doing great!

Bruh. One thing I wish was included is teaching the parents to actually listen and validate. Melissa was expressing and expressing and expressing how she was feeling, how she genuinely was experiencing the situations and was CONSTANTLY invalidated, being told she's wrong and it didn't happen like that. That's gaslighting. But also, no wonder she'll walk away first, it HURTS to be open and vulnerable only to be told you're wrong and you don't experience what you say you experience. That really should've been addressed.

Exactly, this is actually one episode I'm disappointed in for that very reason. I kept waiting for Jo to shut down the parents & call them out on them taking advantage of their daughter. When she started telling her mom to shut up so she could finish speaking, I was happy Jo stepped in & backed her up but shocked me that she then turned & gave that same sign to Melissa. No wonder she ran out! They really should have spent more time on the parents lack of accountability in that area especially

The little ones didn't learn to sign because the parents don't interact with any of the kids. That is why the big sister is the acting parent. It almost seems like they don't want to be around the kids because the kids can hear.
