Saw this combo live at Thetford Forest years ago - that Sabre Dance performance will live with me for the rest of my life. Epic!

Same here - Love Sculpture at Loughborough University - just 3 in the band - they were LOUD, one of the few bands that hurt my ears when I was watching ! They also did a very good version of The Beatles' "A Day in the Life" as I remember.

Dave was ten years younger then. I've noticed that all the live videos I've seen more recently are a lot shorter than the Sevila masterclass.

It's strange to see a lot of these Old Gibson Guitarists using Strats nowadays. Dave Edmunds, Pete Townshend, Andy Latimer to name a few. Epic Performance👍
@aljustal6554 Жыл бұрын
A standard Strat weighs about 1-1.5 kilos (around 2 to 3 1/2 pounds) less than a standard Les Paul, which may be one of the reasons.

@frankford11152 жыл бұрын
There would be a lot of very good musicians who disagree. But music is subjective, so he is welcome to an opinion. Not many who see in live come away thinking he is a muppet though. Rockpile? What a band!
@markjohnson122410 жыл бұрын
Stratocaster...? Sound all over the place too. Gilson Lavis topping as usual*. Jools reading a magazine yak yak? I agree Kelvin the Sevilla recording is absolutely peerless. * See Astleys Way 2/2 at the end. People really in love with what they are doing as here yes?
@165lothair11 жыл бұрын
Had a music teacher who said the Stones were useless at music because they couldn't read music. You don't read music, it's played with emotion, passion and every other human emotion. Dave Edmunds playing this. He was born to do this,

@77kelvinsmith yes indeed. Better guitar, better recording, better sound overall. I don't understand why the version @ Jools sounds so ... muffled
@alcampbell68329 жыл бұрын
A little tamer than the version done at the concert in Seville Spain but I like it. By the way was that Jerry Lee Lewis at the piano? Not very well defined but it sure resembled him.

Sabre Dance by Khachaturian it's a classical piece
@decimus778114 жыл бұрын
this has got to be some of the finest guitar playing of the last decade, sabre dance on an electric guitar, sick dude just sick. Do you know how hard that tune is to play on a guitar, there are only a few guitar players in the world who could pull this off.

@Gyphia - That's the fault of the stupid sound engineers; the quality of them has gone down at the BBC in the past few years. I think he should have played it with a Les Paul or an SG - it would have been far more gutsy.

Bless him! Decent drummer though he is, Gil is no Terry Williams.
@trevorevans1213 жыл бұрын
Agree with other comments that the band drowns Dave out, big time, and he also misses a lot of notes waiting for them to catch up. This tune should be left to Dave and the drummer only.
@KavanaghGTR8 жыл бұрын
Terrible version. Why didn't the band STFU or at least tone it down, and let him play it?
