Lyrics:
Grandpa, tell me 'bout the good old days
Sometimes it feels like this world's gone crazy
And Grandpa, take me back to yesterday
When the line between right and wrong
Didn't seem so hazy
Did lovers really fall in love to stay
And stand beside each other, come what may?
Was a promise really something people kept
Not just something they would say and then forget
Did families really bow their heads to pray
Did daddies really never go away?
Oh, Grandpa, tell me 'bout the good old days
Grandpa, everything is changing fast
We call it progress, but I just don't know
And Grandpa, let's wander back into the past
And paint me the picture of long ago
Did lovers really fall in love to stay
And stand beside each other, come what may?
Was a promise really something people kept
Not just something they would say and then forget
Did families really bow their heads to pray
Did daddies really never go away?
Oh, Grandpa, tell me 'bout the good old days
Oh, Grandpa, tell me 'bout the good old days

Hey friends! Thanks so much for the overwhelming response to this song. For all of you dealing with loss, my heart goes out to you. I only wanted to put this song out as a reminder to the world how family values used to be so important. What I’ve received in return other than amazing support, is stories of people who are missing a loved one. I’m so grateful for all the stories of love that y’all are sharing on here. I encourage you to read other comments and help each other out. None of us are alone here. Maybe we can take this small opportunity to love one another. It’s a safe place that only a special few will prolly ever see. If you feel like sharing this song with someone who might need it, I’d also be eternally grateful. I could use your help to reach more people. SPREAD LOVE LIKE PEANUT BUTTER

Modern country is trash. Has no real meaning. This is simply a cover yet the way the guy sings the song puts some real emotion into the song that you don’t hear from these new punks that are cramming out music nowadays

Hey y’all, my family!! I am so proud to share this. I loved this song as a kid. And it means even more to me now. This song isn’t really about grandpa...it’s about how far we’ve strayed from the simple, good values that the previous generation represents. I long for the days where we loved more than we fought. I love this song. I hope you do too. SLLPB Ps. This is my wife, mom, and dad in the video. They were troopers. Haha

Amazing job, brother. My momma was from Lufkin...she would’ve loved your voice. My granddaddy (her dad) was a guitar player, she was a pianist, and I myself am a bassist. So I would be so bold to say that Lufkin produces some musical talent! Keep that good stuff coming, brother. Oh and go have some Lufkin BBQ and tell me how awesome it is! Love that joint!

I’m here after my papa passed away yesterday. He was in his 80’s and didn’t have enough time to be put in a a hospice home. I drove to him with all my kids to take care of him for two days, clean him up check on him. He was like a dad to me. All I have is some things of his and voicemails I’ve kept. He was the best. It’s only been a day but I miss him so much. But I’m glad he’s no longer in pain and with my mama (grandma now). It’s been 12 years without her and I think he was ready to go with her. I’m so happy they are together now 😭❤️

I have never stopped playing this for myself every so often within the weeks and months after release. I lost my grandpa Abe last week. He was 98 years old and such an amazing man. He served in WW2 as a waste gunner on a b24 liberator in Italy and was even blessed by the pope! He became a chemist for General Electric and was married to my grandma for 66 years before she passed in 2015. I'm gonna miss him 😢 Sunday dinners at his house when I was a kid are still my best memories. He valued his family and loved his grandsons He was the best cook! I can only hope to be half the man he was one day.

My daughter danced with my dad to this song at her wedding. Back story, he had a stroke 5 years ago & refused to work with rehab, until my daughter came to visit and he got out of bed and started trying to walk again, working with rehab to one day be able to dance at her wedding. This song combined with his pure joy in his eyes as he stood out of his wheelchair to dance with her had the entire room in tears. Thank you for such a beautiful song.

This is an amazing version of the Judds song. Absolutely breathtaking. I will be listening to it for days to come. I lost my Daddy back in 2023 ..I miss him dearly. There are days when i just dont want to move ahead. The world is a different place now without him. So thankful For this song and the love of Jesus for holding me on days when I feel like just giving up.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your Precious Father Michelle. I lost my Daddy too early this year. Even saying that is almost unbelievable. The pain is too much to bear sometimes. I _love_ this version of this song and when I hear it, even though I love it, I now burst into a river of tears. The whole world has changed for my Mum and I. I know Jesus will look after our loved Ones and surround our beloveds with perfect Love and perfect Light. From the little girl in me to the little girl in You, who adore their Fathers. Strength, love and hugs

“Did daddies really never go away..,” hits different when your great grand father, grandfather and father arnt your blood. Because every man in my patriarch has commitment and abandonment issues. I met the man I call my Grandpa when I was about 10 years old. He married my Grandma and really took his role as a grandparent to heart. I remember him telling me and my brother stories of when he was my age and bagging his first deer, the first time he taught me a song to play on guitar, eating deer meat for breakfast with him and grandma, and spotting all the critters around the property, and many more memories. On my 11th birthday, he gave me my first guitar, and he is the reason why I became a musician and eventually a guitar builder. This year, he won't be able to see me turn 29, after passing away a few months ago. I miss you, Grandpa. I can only hope to live up to your example.

Lost my grandpa in 2014 I was 13. That same year my parents got divorced. This song really hits home for me. I always said I was born in the wrong decade… you did a great job!

Lost my grandfather back in 1985 when I was only 14. Lost my grandmother 10 years later. Never knew my grandparents on my fathers side. My mom passed about 8 years ago. I still miss all of them. It just seems like life gets more heartbreaking as you grow older and start losing those closes to you. Great cover of this song and it sure gets the tears flowing thinking back to the past.

This is real music. This is an artist. What happened to the world? When did we lose our tracks? These lyrics is what the world needs in these times...

He didn’t write this. He covered this song. It’s a old song. I thought he did. My bad.

My grandpa Lesley Baker was a man on great honour and respect. A man who has no enemies. Grand kids who would always laugh when he was around. Who would play the trumpet like no other. Or a man who when I had a hard day would take me to Dairy Queen. Who would talk to me for hours while sitting by a camp father. The importance of time especially teenagers which I’m one right now. If you have the opportunity to hangout with your grandpa or your friends. Choose your grandpa as time is of an essential. Mow his lawn help carry groceries into the house. Those little things and memories will last you a life time.

I love this song so much my grandpa was my best best friend and I would do anything to have him back and riding in the old lil ford ranger truck. Ever since I was young I always saw him at 10 foot tall he was hard working man and even when he got older he always tried to cut the grass and work I’m glad I got to learn that from him. Grandpas are heroes.
