They are by far the greatest band I’ve ever seen live. When I saw them for the first time I had so much respect for this band. They’re the most influential band to so many other artists you wouldn’t even believe. You can’t even find another band to compare to them. They write all there own music and produce all there own music. They are musical geniuses. If you don’t have an ear for Depeche Mode you don’t have an ear for music. Plain and simple.

For a year now I've been cacthing up with Depeche mode and I really enjoy most of the songs, whose lyrics generally depict facts from life, there's a story behind every song. my favorite songs are Strangelove, enjoy the silence (whose isn't it), personal Jesus, it's no good... by the way I love David's baritone speaking voice.

A good bloke i think is the accurate description of this fine gentleman. My teen hero, DM were my 1st concert i went to on my own at 14 in 1988, they sure paved the way for me into the music life. Must be amazing when your son puts your new record on a 2nd time that night you gave him the copy.....so this was 12 years ago? Now they are still going, even if it is just him & Martin now. Amazing, although i would not go to see them live.

Dave has always seemed so sensible. It really makes one wonder how much he went through during the devotional tour and the few years after. He mentions here it was this repetitive monotony that led to a misplaced focus, but I have to wonder if it had to have been more than that. Perhaps it was simply the drug use? The drugs? It’s difficult to believe drugs can do that to someone so sensible, but I guess it can, especially if under a lot of stress. He also says he was very unhappy at that time. I think long term fans could see that change in him then. Its wonderful that it seems like there’s been a return of Dave, the real Dave. He looks fantastic, at ease and happy here. I hope that has continued for him. I like how in recent footage (momento mori concerts) he seems much more interactive with the audiences at concerts and caring, welcoming even. (This interview is 14 years old when I’m writing this) He looks like he is enjoying it and much more relaxed with his job and more connecting with the people who come to see them. Whatever hell he has been through his recovery and honesty about it is truly beautiful. I’m sure it can reflect very positively on those struggling with similar issues. So cool. ♥

I don't know. I think their best years are behind them. I have seen them on every tour since MFTM and I'm done. I miss the electronic DM. I loved them because they weren't the typical rock band but now that's what they are. Rather boring to me.

He is a brilliant musician from my favourite ever band who sometimes fckn annoys me. Even though this was filmed a lifetime ago.. I don’t buy this I’ve only felt at home in New York when for a fact he was well at home in Basildon growing up. Plus the American accent for random words every now & then. Then the same word later twice in an Essex accent in a different interview the next day! Some might say it’s all for extra appeal to the American audience. Which helps sell records. Funny the last question, his answer & how things have turned out! 😆😆
@veggie42 Жыл бұрын
He wasn't always in Basildon remember the getting into trouble and dad leaving and him finding out his stepdad wasn't his dad...That's agony. He also was dropped from his course which was history he was in DM. The lecturers were likely proud
@sonofhibbs44253 ай бұрын
Trust me..we Americans don’t need or want our Mode to talk like us. It’s not going to help their American fan base to try and make oneself more ‘’American’’. We also loved those boys from Basildon, even if we had no frickin’ idea where that even was. But they do live here now, so they are Americans now. When I stayed in Scotland for awhile then returned home, I heard the same complaints from my family- that I talked with an accent. You can’t help but pick it up wherever you’re at. It’s natural. It just happens without trying. It surprises me he feels at home in New York City, but that’s only because I feel frightened by that ‘’town’’ when I’m driving past it. 😆 From any little bit of trivia I’ve read about the band member’s bio, it sounds like Dave didn’t have the best of times in his upbringing in Basildon. Some people really distance themselves from those places that served them heartbreak and strife. NYC must have some special connection for him.
