What is immortality - I have only discovered this amazing musician after his all too sudden passing and he has inspired me in a way that no other musician has. If one is still able to inspire others after they're gone, I believe that is as close to immortality that is possible.

I was just thinking a similar thing.. I've just came across Dave Hum today as I am a fan of Mean Mary. A local guy (uk) I've not heard of WHY!! I love music,the guitar,bank,fiddle all that. You just gotta pick it up and play! and I will! RIP Dave Hum greatfully inspired xx

This is a heck of a legacy. To have been-and, continue to be-an inspiration to who knows how many players, that you will never meet…that’s just amazing.

Ohh... me too. I have listened to his music over the years, each song 50 times or more. I listen to it as I brush each dog next to me as I wishtle along

If someone only had the good fortune to hear this magnificent rendition it would be enough to convince them of Dave Hum's genius. I will never tire of it for as long as I live.

I'm grateful my wife gave me a banjo for Christmas. Had I not received the banjo, and love it, I'd not have found and cherished this man and his music. You've inspired me to not only practice, practice, practice, but simply have fun with my banjo. Thanks, Dave.

I hope you either stuck with it or get banjo fever again now and stay. That's where I feel I am. I laid it down a couple times "short on time" but it will always be that way and I do other things I can give up for banjo practice. I'm getting a nice banjo with an uncommon influx of funds but to lessen fret wear I'll use it to reward myself after Dirty 30's cheap banjo practice. It works fine, actually, enough to mod here and there, and I can carry it out to the fire without being asked if I insured it.

Love the way Dave rolls out the tune, then improvises so creatively.

I, too, am grateful for my banjo, which I picked up over in West Virginia when I was a professor at Marshall University there. I wish Dave Hum had left us some training videos. What a wonderful player he was. Life is so short, and we realize this more and more the older we grow. Thank God for this life, though, and for the legacy Dave Hum left behind in spite if it all. I am just so grateful for his music and KZfaq videos, and am determined to learn to play as much like him as I can learn on my own.

If ever a man deserved immortality for his musical talent, I can think of no one more deserving than Dave Hum. I guess the man upstairs likes banjo music too. Hope to meet Dave there when my time comes. If there are no banjos, I ain't goin'!

I sure do wish I could have met Dave Hum when I was young, but it is still fun trying to learn his songs on banjo. I wonder, though, if I'll ever get half as good as he was. At age 65, I'm kinda getting started late!

Unfortunately, Dave died way too soon... but his music lives on... . Listening to this for perhaps the 6th time... just love his musical sense and the way he crafts a tune... and explores it's many avenues.

great. please what tuning is your banjo in?
@dr.jerrygarrett4936 жыл бұрын
Liam, This reply is a bit late - years late, but I'm still learning to play the banjo and on we roll. I tuned my banjo to normal tuning with a guy online. Then I discovered I need to put my capo on the third fret. (I thought for quite some time that Dave had his capo on the second fret, but it is actually the third I guess. Anyway, this works for me.)
