When Sammy died I was lucky to hear an interview with Tim Hunter. He made the point that Dave didn’t have too many fights ,but he was a real team guy who would do anything to win. Including sucker punching,gouging,tripping, slashing,hair pulling,charging,elbowing,high sticking biting etc

70 fights. I think some people think that all he did was fight.

As a young teenager playing and watching hockey, me and my friends would call him “Cement Head” Semanko.

what i really remember about 83 finals besides smith stopping everything oilers threw at him was guys like messier and semenko going after the smallest guys on isles like anders kallur and thomas johnson but avoiding gillies and nystrom like the plague 14:05 look at fear in semenkos eyes scared to look nystrom in the eyes 🤣

Say what you want but back in the day don't you think you would feel a little more confident with a guy like that on your team. That goes for anyone who has played any competitive type of hockey back in the 80's.

Al McGuire interviewing a hockey player about goon shenanigans? He coached some famous goon squads at Marquette - start there.

Al McGuire once put a guy on the court vs DePaul who barely played for the sole purpose of goading DePaul's top center to fight. It worked and Marquette won a game they shouldn't have.

This was when Dave was at the height of his powers , big , scary and unpredictable. The ultimate in an early 80's enforcer. Would he jump people? Absolutely but who didn't back then?

Saw the nite Probert knocked Semenko out.
@michealjoesph5 жыл бұрын
no not a knockout by a long shot he knocked him down. no knockout. even fight until semenko got turned around. Semenko was way past his prime . would of been interesting to see him in his prime against probert.
@foodfudd5 жыл бұрын
I agree. Semenko was a tough fucker for sure. So was Probert though. Two of the best without a doubt.

If you like hockey & watching super talented highly skilled players + fighting then hockey is for you & you can have the best of both worlds lol 😂 The fight(s) for the most part don’t last long (3-5mins) & then you can get back to watching skilled hockey 🏒

One of the dirtiest and cheapest enforcers ever. Just look at the elbow to Jamie Macoun's head at 7:28. Scary stuff.

Dirty Dave Semenko. Too bad he couldn't play real hockey... just a major dirty goon who was one of five or six bodyguards for "The Overrated One". He was so much larger than most players. He should win most fights. Clueless commentators.
@iceman27962 ай бұрын
Boy do you have that right. The announcers on some of those fights must have been blind. He didn't win any of those fights unless he jumped the guy. Tim Hunter hammered in one of the fights. Semenko had no talent at all. Just a very dirty so called player. If he paired off with anyone his size he got his ass kicked.
