One of the reasons I like watching Dave is that he has very good editing skills. He is able to deliver his narrative when on screen very well, and he doesn't do it by cutting a lot of takes together like many other KZfaqrs. That, plus the quality of his no-nonsense, pretty unbiased, content makes him a really stand-out tech reviewer.

While I do agree 120Hz ProMotion is nice (and even saves battery life on average), most people don’t care, as reflected by the buying statistics. Many people don’t see the difference unless pointed to it, while the very generous brightness or the dynamic island (and its functionality) are much more noticeable to most people.

A lot of people may not care. But not the ones who have used a 120Hz device. They are not going back. I know Apple has to create a difference between their usual and pro models, I only wish they didn't pick this feature as one of the differences. It's just petty.

Nice video. Thanks for a nice review. But zoom does matter and matters a lot when you are shooting in a tighter space. Even 3x zoom is a lot to work with and you have to move farther from the subject. In case of 5x it is going to be a lot of problem in such situations. Ideally, I would have preferred that they kept 3x on Pro model by adding additional lens, but Apple being Apple will do in in coming years. One major update per year.

Hi Dave! So the phones stayed relatively the same price not because Apple is taking the hit but rather the materials are much cheaper than the build of previous iphones! Along with older iphones being the same price because of certain removed features (i.e. sim card slot, smaller haptic motor, lower sapphire amount in camera modules) So the phone is really nice and premium build though it cheaper because of the material :)

One of the major questions with the 15 Pro Max and how it differs from previous generation iPhones e the way the new 5x zoom lens affects Portrait Mode, not just the image quality itself, but the usability and practicality aspects of dealing with such a large zoom increase (from previous 3x zoom). I use 3x Portrait Mode a lot, this is in fact the main factor to make me decide on an upgrade to the latest iPhone or not... I'm really concerned that the 120mm 5x zoom will make it very difficult to use Portrait Mode in several scenarios. So, if you can make a review very much focused in comparing Portrait Mode on the new 15 Pro Max and previous generations, specifically at 3x and 5x zoom and how different approaches and strategies are necessary to shoot the same subjects with these different zoom ranges, it would be really useful.
@pressrepeat2000
@pressrepeat2000 10 ай бұрын
Note that there is no actual “zoom” on the phone, the focal lengths are fixed at 12, 24 and 120mm equivalents on the three lenses. This is a real issue for portraits because every focal length between 24mm to 120mm is just digital cropping. The old 77mm focal length on the 14 Pro was amazing for portraits. And even a 50mm (2x) focal length would have been better.

@@ReflektOnIt nope, the Snapdragon 888 and Gen 1 were behind the Apple silicon for 1.5 years. Probably with the old 855 and 865 they match up the latest Apple Silicon available. For instance: the SD 855 was equal to the A12 inside iPhone XS, the 865 was equal (or even faster) than the A13 inside Iphone 11. SD 888 was behind A14 from the iPhone 12 and SD Gen 1 was the same story being behind to A15 from iPhones 13's (and even sometimes were behind iPhone 12 performance). It was until Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 when they match up the A16 from iPhone 14 pro and actually surpassing in gaming performance. Probably 8 Gen 3 will equal the latest A17 Pro.

Regarding the more 'agile' feeling Pro models - there is definitely a reason they feel better than the absolute weight reduction. Most of the weight reduction was achieved around the very outer edges of the phone (i.e. the frame) and this brings the overall weight of the phone down but also concentrates the weight in the very centre of the phone, so it feels better balanced. Kind of like a mid-engined sports car vs a more conventional car with weight at the front and back, even if the overall weight of both are the same. The whole thing spins and moves around better because all the weight is right in the centre. Hope that makes sense. Looking forward to handling one to gauge the feel.

The last time I used new iPhones they were extremely top-heavy. It felt like cameras were taking 2/3 of the whole weight and it was trying to flip over all the time. Even comparing to Pixel with its large block, Pixel feels much more balanced. I'm not sure if a different frame will help a lot with that. This was very unexpected as I had a muscle memory that iPhones were always almost perfectly balanced. But 14 is just really bad.

About that portrait mode- The idea of post editing portrait was already there. because I had been using it on my pixel 6 device. You can adjust what needs to be focused and what can be out of focus and also how much bokeh or depth you need. I had been using it for two years. It is located under tools when you activate editing in google photos. But i think apple's version of it may be slightly better. Just saying apple didn't invented it but rather copied it.
