Reasons bars fail -lack of financial lacking -rent must be no more than 10% of all sales -systems in place -owner manages the system not the employees -poor customer service -don’t stop marketing ( give customers in your place a premium experience) -ask how is everything going, introduce as owner / manager - not measuring, monitoring or following up -in god we trust, all other must bring data -poor execution plans and goals

Love the parts about systems. I started doing this at my fathers pizza business with newer and current employees and it changed the dynamic completely. Most get upset or angry at someone because they "expect" them to know it all right away. Not the case. Encouragement bit by bit, letting the person know if it is right or wrong, and how to make it right. The more you can get them having little successes on their own, the better. Eventually, the employee that was considered bottom tier, is one of the most valuable and they enjoy their job.

I've lived for long periods in Spain on the Costa del Sol watching tourist and uk ex pat orientated bars changing hands all the time as they keep failing. From my observation the commonest reason for this is the husband or wife running the place is simply miserable and has difficulty holding any conversation with customers beyond taking an order and presenting a bill.

I was recently at a small bar that looked like it was doing well. The only employee visibly working was the bartender. It was like they were relying for the customer to return to the bar for a refill. They had 4-6 televisions and 2 billiard tables so they had ways to entertain. It was in the wonderful location. A beautiful view of a lake

Very good video. I think there are definitely more points at play - especially depending on your location. In Dubai there is a big issue, of an extremely competitive market. It is almost a given, that all bars are reasonably good in customer service - but marketing is key. Another one, which has been not put out there is: promise/delivery. Especially owners are often very quick to attempt to be “the best of town” but then cannot follow up in their payroll, necessary equipment etc. You have got to promise the right concept and just over-deliver (however the problem in a high competitive market is, that you really cannot much “under-promise” - because this would affect effectively your footfall.

Nothin's nothin until it's something. You won't know if you are "made for this" until you go through it, open it, and run it for a few years. Common sense & maturity doesn't make it "a piece of cake." You'll have to wear a lot of hats - and do them all well. My suggestion is to get as many years in Restaurant Management (where you are hiring/firing) under your belt as possible - you'll learn 10X more doing this then just working a unit level job. The world is full of great servers who think they could run their own place. This is not negative- just reality. Good luck

Too much to cover in a KZfaq comment Paul, but I will say that I have an extensive course coming out soon on how to open a bar/restaurant, with business plan included. And then beyond that, I will be releasing a course on how to add bar catering to your existing bar to GREATLY increase your profits. Keep an eye out. In the meantime, the one piece of advice I would give you is to price out your appetizers and make sure you're hitting a 30 - 32% food cost. Don't just carry an appetizer because you think it's awesome or it's popular when it can cost you a lot of money (wings are a good example of this). Best of luck to you. Very exciting.

Bar Rescue is a scam. I'm a regular at a bar where that happened. The bar was forced to change the name to something stupid, forced to feature overly complicated mixed drinks the patrons were not interested in, forced to have overly complicated pricing and the establishment was forced for a long time to purchase from a different supplier for that little bit of publicity. None of that increases revenue. The ' remodel ' was very superficial and only on the few surfaces on camera. The jerk whose show it is refused to do a meet and greet with staff. Staff was offended by that. Also, staff were already stressed with the whole procedure and were forced to ' playact ' on camera. The whole story the show presented was a LIE. The staff had to make up things to say while on camera. So it was a BIG WASTE OF TIME AND EFFORT + the owner was stuck with a supplier with less than favorable terms and a stupid new name for the bar. When the owner was approached by producers for a follow-up episode he declined. At no point were ownership or staff or patrons interviewed about issues facing the bar. All that was presented as the scenario was a big, fat, made up LIE.

at 2:17 he says your "occupancy" should not exceed 10% of total sales." What is "occupancy"? Occupancy normally refers to how many people are physically in the bar, but total sales is a dollar amount. Those are completely different categories, so I don't understand what he's talking about.
@DaveAllredTheRealBarman
@DaveAllredTheRealBarman 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Fujiwjui...what I'm referring to when I say "occupancy" is occupancy costs: how much it costs to maintain occupancy on the building/property. So if your bar/restaurant occupancy costs are $10,000 per month, you need to generate at least $100,000 in sales in order to hit that 10% benchmark. Does that make sense?

Realize this is several years old, but having done 1000's of presentations, see a way you might improve here. One of my basic rules is never read your slides. Your audience is doing that while you are talking. Rather just repeating what's there, make sure the key points are made - prefereably with different words - or with examples. Stories about why the points you are making are crucial. Another approach is to reduce the words, so your audience is paying attention to what you are saying versus reading. A simple way to do this is to replace the words with a picture, or a single word. Liked your presenation even with these comments....

Imagine a future where business owners, including those in bars, salons, and tattoo parlors, have the ability to monitor their financial transactions in real-time from any location. With the use of Bitcoin, they gain unprecedented transparency and control over their finances, empowering them to make informed decisions and manage their businesses more efficiently.
