Dave, you want to put in the clutch in first and rev to 6000 RPM. when the lights go green, let out the clutch and ease onto the throttle to get a good launch in the MX5
@yabojabo8578
@yabojabo8578 3 жыл бұрын
You can rev it up to full RPM but NOT full throttle. Drop the clutch then floor it once the tires have hooked up. You should only get a chirp of tire spin. Any more than a chirp and you're too early on the throttle.
@ctblues2426
@ctblues2426 4 жыл бұрын
For me, I've noticed I get great starts every time in the mx5 by putting the car in first gear and holding the brake and leaving the gas pedal alone. Then when it goes green I release the brake and slam down on the gas. It's pretty simplistic but it works, I regularly get massive jumps on everyone doing this.

Do you use a clutch pedal and 6-speed shifter? Or autoshifting?

Rev to 3000-3500 and dump the clutch off the start and pick up the throttle once you feel it hooking. Do some autocross in an ND and it is literally the same between this and real life with sticky tires.
@jamphotostudio
@jamphotostudio 3 жыл бұрын
I've found the best starting RPM in the Mazda is between 6200-6500 RPM. You can dump the clutch and get minimal wheel spin (basically a decent chirp), but the trick is to not push the gas pedal until after the tires grab and you start to accelerate. Just hold the pedal where you started until the tires get grip and then roll onto the throttle.

Went back in and improved my time 2 seconds from 1.38 to easy 1.36’s after watching this. Would love to follow you around a practice session some time 👍 Because of the bad camber at the start, any revs off the line hurt. I’ve picked up places every start since I’ve just accelerated without revs to avoid spin 👌🏻

Might be a bit late to the party, but I find the best way to set off from the line is low revs and counter the wheelspin with the clutch. Basically like setting off from traffic lights sensibly, but floor it when you have grip haha. Great drive as expected, the start was entertaining!
@mikestrange3888
@mikestrange3888 4 жыл бұрын
I get pretty good starts in the Mazda by running the revs up just under half way and then feathering the throttle a bit once it turns green to keep the tires from spinning. Once the tires bite, you can floor it. You can watch me do it on my channel Half Fast Racing. My last video was this same car/track combo.

I typically do full throttle, then on green release the clutch about 50% to the initial bite point, then ease off for the rest. It takes some practice to get it consistently right, but you can get some really killer starts. Great videos Dave, you're definitely one of my favorites.
@i2nupman

Standing start launch testing for all cars. Redline, dump the clutch with full throttle and take note of the wheel spin. Drop the RPM's 1000 at at time until it bogs. Raise the RPM's 200 at a time until just a slight bit of wheel spin hits and that should get you a killer launch. High powered cars will need a little throttle control to keep the wheel spin down.

This is my favourite series, even though I have an a-class lic. What I like best about this series is (usually) a combination of short twisty tracks and a nimble little car with a manual gearbox. The problem with the advanced mazda (C class) series is they tend to use long tracks with miles of straights, which are boring in the mx5.
@everythinggaming7938
@everythinggaming7938 2 жыл бұрын
agree =d the advance mazda this week is sebring it just does not fit the car at all, I believe the advance should have the same tracks as the rookies but just a higher licence to get into it

And about the MX5 being a great car to race... I like saying, “It’s not underpowered, it’s over-sprung and over-braked.” That , combined with narrow tires, makes it a great platform to practice conservation of momentum. If you can do that well in the MX5, you’ll have success in grippier, more powerful cars.

To start, lots of people have you tube videos on clutch use. I am much lower irating then you, but in my range most people do spin tires and I can get a good start just by punching it, my irating last race was 1393 and I went from 5th to 2nd before getting to turn 1 at Charlotte and I wasn’t worried about getting banged into.

I've found that I've gotten the best starts by not revving up. Just put it in first before the lights go green. When it goes green just floor it. It seems counterintuitive but I went through the entire field of a race one time. Everyone was using different rev points. And the guy who got the best start didn't rev at all.
@Jsfaus
@Jsfaus 4 жыл бұрын
I've been doing the same recently, after super mixed success with trying different rev points, I now just sit in first gear, foot on the brake and accelerator at the same time, release brake on green. You can probably get off the line faster, but it's by no means slow

I'm just getting started in iracing and have so far only used "test drive" because I don't want to be one of "those" guys, and the replay of #3's spin is concerning me a little. I would have thought myself innocent based on what I saw in the replay because I never saw the cars actually touch. Do you have to learn to see the difference between someone spinning out from their own doing and you turning them around based on clues other than seeing the daylight between cars disappearing, or did I miss something that constituted a smoking gun? I intend to keep it clean to the best of my ability and not being able to tell if contact occurred in a replay doesn't fill me with confidence that I'd even be able to tell if I'd caused someone to spin or not. 😕

I am surprised that more people don't play this sim as it is probably the closest you can get to realism what with the feedback, well i think so. I totally agree about the mazda, when you first play the game you think what a mazda, poxy car, then after a few races or laps the mazda does indeed start to become a great car and to be fair any more than that and it would be to much. Good race, yeah you will have to apologise to number 3, this game can be brutal at times, one mistake and you can have a long miserable race
