Hey DAVE, don't forget to setup the new 'OK' button in the PCUP. Doing so, during race or qual, when the RED Fuel Alarm appears, press 2 seconds on this button to remove it and have the session best lap displayed again. Yes, 2 sec is a looooong time.

Have personally been a believer that penalties should just be time added post race. Cant even guess how many incidents have happened from ppl serving slow downs in bad spots. Obvs would take some tuning so ppl dont start cutting on purpose though.

The devs should probably implement a ghosting feature for slow down penalties, which could be started by pressing a button or something. That way, with a press of a button, your car is speed limited and ghosted for the duration of the penalty. It’d be something similar to what Gran Turismo 7 does

@@jesseolsen6456 you’ve “totally” missed the point of my comment entirely. If your problem is messing with the realism of the sim, then having cars stop on track to serve penalties has already done that so don’t come for me. My fix is only working around the existing slow down penalty system to prevent people from slamming into stopped cars on track and ruining the races for large amounts players.

I think the problem with the slowdowns is that they can also increase in time. If it's a 1.5s slowdown, then it should only ever decrease. I've noticed you take some time off then take the next corner at normal speed so as not to block anyone and the slowdown time increases

The entire rating/ranking system on iRacing is broken, from SR, to IR, and it wouldn't even surprise me if the TT rating, which I personally don't give a rip about is broken, too. SR especially one guy taps you on the ass because the folks in front of you slowed down and he didn't, and the best you can hope for is a +/-0, and if it happens again, you're looking at -0.10 or more, depending on the race. But the old school folks don't want to hear it and the mockery I've seen them give to folks on the forum who suggest it needs changing, especially from people who clearly spend more time in the forums than they do on the track is obnoxious as all get out.

Love the videos Dave, great racing mate. I didn’t realise you were in one of the practice sessions I was in yesterday. I entered a race in the Porsche cup later in the day and unfortunately net code caused me and two others to crash so ended up going down to p24 but managed to recover and get back up to p10. I was in second split (2.1k) because I only started a few months ago. It was a fun race but it’s always carnage in Porsche cup 😂.

Little tip. Use slowdowns on corners. You have 30secs to finish it so make the most of that time.

Not just slow downs but the repair time. Basically kills any race your having. Add in how easy it is to need a repair and I have had a number of races wiped out by having to pit

Jumped into the Porsche Cup car last night for a bit of fun here at spa, after a few laps with the tires feeling like they were made of wood I just couldn't stomach a race with it. I didn't mind road Atlanta last week but this car is still just as broken as the penalty system.

I just started a few months ago, yes this sim is amazing. I just got my C license in road. I have my A in Ovals and I got my C in dirt yesterday. I love racing and the different track car combinations really test you every lap. It's like real life driving the car with the pedals just as much as the wheel.

Ive said this for awhile now. Wish there was a way to make things better on the penalty system as well. Suffering a 4x for something you didn’t do is terrible. Ive also been hit from behind with a 0x contact but then get a 2x for loss of control when they spin you. It does need some work!

Dave yourself and other popular sim racer influencers voice should get iRacings attention. There is a lot of things that should have been fixed a.long time ago. Hopefully iRacing gets proactive and listens to their customers to make the sim racing even better while avoiding and type of rfactor kind issues.

Agree slow down system is wrong on various tracks but also definitely broken. Sometimes it just wont run off. Unless you park it which is just dangerous

The other options to the slow down is the stop and go or the pass through penalty. Slow down is still easier.

Great intro made me chuckle. Very intense racing there would be to much for me to handle. The incident with Fred was one of those shitty moments I think we all have had happen to us. You really don't want to ruin the guys race but it happens and you can't stop it. Honestly I think maybe there is case for saying maybe you should have lifted of the throttle a little instead of moving into his strange line.

always vague as to when that pesky SLOW DOWN's going to go away while you're slowing down. Some times you can floor it before it disappears, other times it's not as generous and it ticks UP

Love your content Dave…but I did a 24 hour at Spa when they were even harder on incs and completed 182 laps for 22 incs and one of my teamies did 192 laps for 12 incs. Good video though, might even get me on track after a long time off.

Yes but 24hr runs are driven much more conservative. Not necessarily slower, just a lot less risks being taken.

I think the main issue with it isn't the system as a whole, it's more that a 1 second slowdown in reality is often more like a 2 second slowdown or even worse, depending on where you have to serve it. Other than that, IDK if the sporting code says anything about serving a slowdown but if it doesn't it should have something that makes it similar to brake checking in terms of being bad behaviour to slow down in the middle of a straight and if you serve your slow down in such a way it ought to be something you can protest.

15:40 to be fair. You 'only' lost 2.8 seconds. Before you got the slowdown you were 0.4 seconds behind the car in front(Loan Eynde) and after you served the slowdown the gap was 3.2. And on the last lap you lost 2.1 seconds. The only thing is that the time adds up sometimes. Like on the slowdown on the last lap. It was initially 1.5 seconds, but a few seconds later it was 2.0 seconds. That is my biggest problem with the slowdowns.

I'd love them to change the whole rating system. I have a 2.4iR mainly gained in Formula cars and the Mazda. I am definitely not a 2.4K in a GT car or tin top so hate that I have to race in those higher splits when I want to have a go in a Porsche or any of the GT cars

Time penalty at end of race would be better. But as far as a penalty, you constantly pushed the limit so rightly got a slowdown when exceeding.

They should make the spotter say: They say you've cut the course, you have to EFF up everyones race now to give up the time gained... These slowdowns man. I get if they say give up 0.5s with in 30s or so, but if you keep going flatout it keeps counting towards it. its ridicolous.

I agree... broken. How does it take 3.6 seconds of coasting along to burn off a 1.8 second slowdown? On the positive side, I finally got a new computer. i9 13900, 32GB DDR5 ram, RTX 4070i, 2TB SSD and triple 27" curved monitors. Haven't got the bugs worked out of the monitor set up yet but hopefully soon. Happy Days!

The slowdowns are fine, you just need to get better at taking them Dave. The worst thing you can is try to run it off... That'll cost you more time. When you get it, get off the racing line, brake and go. And the slowdown is gone. Or better yet, try to avoid them all together, you know where they are..

I couldn't have got those off more efficiently at all. If I'd braked harder I'd have lost more momentum and even more time. A 1.8 second slowdown shouldn't be 3.4. The slowdowns are far from fine 😂

@DaveCamYT . You still had 15-20 seconds left in both those slow downs to bleed off the penalty. If you initially slow down too much to end the penalty quickly, you lose a lot of momentum that takes awhile to get back, and you lose seconds in the process. At least that's what I've found to be the case.

If you go around a turn with the slowdown active it goes up which is why I served it before the end of the Kennel 🫤 If you could chip away a tenth here and a tenth there it'd be fine in that time 👍

Slowdowns adding up are not fine. I just started racing on RaceRoom and when I get a slow down, it is a fixed amount (most likely calculated or perceived gain, I dont know yet) and a certain time to get rid of it. You can just do it very slowly or in a burst, you dont get extra anywhere. Just make sure you serve it in time. This iracing crap where you gain more penalty the longer you go full tilt just sort of makes the racing more dangerous because people suddenly change lane and brake a lot to mitigate consequences very close to the corner exit, which is never a good thing on track

I think, rather than being broken we just have higher expectations than such an old system can deliver - seems like it’s time machine-learning got involved in the penalty system. Pro’s don’t seem to mind though.

I don't agree with your maths on that slow down, Dave - you lost momentum & a lot of time in your wobble and then slowly up the hill. Easy 4 seconds lost with your 1.8 slow down.

While I agree the penalty system needs a rework, the sim didn’t force you to serve it in the straight (like Gran Turismo does). You could have saved yourself some seconds by serving it in the chicane. Or be like me and let my general lack of pace passively serve the penalty 😂

Mate I just had a race been third all race and in the last lap my car kicked out had a drift through the corner and iRacing gave me a 41 second penalty for that saying illegally gains time Like WTF Finished third and when they added 41 sec I was eleventh place That’s bullshit bro seriously

I have no idea how this race ended as I only got 11 minutes in before giving up. This and all the other Porsches in the game are the worst sounding cars in game. They just sound like a whiny teenage schoolgirl and not only were they giving me a headache but it was resonating down my face and giving me a toothache, I was in such pain. Sure I could mute the sound but then I wouldn't hear Dave commenting on what is happening. This vid has finally made me decide NOT to buy ANY Porsches in the game (were going to be the last ones I bought anyway as I don't like the styling) or watch any more Porsche Cup races. It sucks though as I enjoy watching every vid you do Dave.

iRacing's safety rating is also broken. It's too easy to be a muppet and maintain A and B classes. It's disappointing when people blunder their way by everyone because they don't care if they wreck them.

Maybe You as experienced sim racer could do video about this topic and compare systems from this popular platforms like Raceroom, iRacing, RF2, ACC and others. Im sure all platforms have some good and bad penalty features.

I wish Iracing would allow drivers who have a certain amount of years with the service and a high level of safety and Irating to be live stewards during the races if they want to when there not racing. It can't be that hard to not give a guy a 4x for being ran thorugh while breaking when the guy who hit you hardly slowed down for the corner at all. I am tires of being hit by other cars when I was just totally at fault. The penalty system is pretty bad too. Pitting under yellow and if you are ahead of the car on track by a small delta it should not be a penalty. I get if the guy just ran around the track a lap ahead but a small delta should be allowed --Ovals

It's meant to be a race killer - so it's an appropriate penalty and will hopefully stop people from doing it. How many cars were lost in this very race by other cars getting out of shape in that exact spot and taking out innocents? And IRL the consequence for that particular off-track can be actual death. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time! (Actually just don't do the crime)

@noid919 the slowdown I got was around 1.8 seconds with 30 seconds to serve it. Because of the way the iracing slowdown works it can go up (more than the 1.8 second original slowdown) and down. A 1.8 second slowdown can easily turn into 4 seconds. That's my issue. 👍 If I got a 1.8 second slowdown, served 0.5 of it, I should only have 1.3 to serve, but if I went around a turn for example (still within the 30 seconds) it would increase 🫤

@@davecamm Ah, I got it now. Thanks for the explanation. It's a tough thing to calculate though - I can see it going up at times (like if you gain a speed advantage going onto a long straight you're going to gain time along the whole straight) and if you get into a twisty section it would be easy to bleed off 0.2 or 0.3 multiple times without yielding a position, so it should increase then as well. I'd hate to be the one to come up with a fairer on-the-fly system and I'd have to agree that a post-race penalty would be better, but F1-style where they start at 5 seconds and build up with each infraction.

The slowdown system is utter garbage and is unfortunately defended by the die hard fanboys. It makes zero sense and is a blunt tool, you should never have to serve a slowdown when avoiding a crash having already lost time. That’s right, you go off track to avoid an incident and at certain tracks you’re penalised, yet people actually defend this system.

Penalty system is not great yes. They need to adjust a few things. Wish they could add time at the end rather than make people slow down mid race too. There are ways to run off the time and screw your opponents at the same time. Like going through a corner really slow. If you accumulate enough time in penalties then you gotta stop, maybe even instant DQ. Sometimes, like Turn 1 at Red Bull, if you go wide then enter the track past the curb, always get a slowdown even if you enter the track really slow. I tried at least, last week, but no. Still had to slow. Speeding in pits, just a little, 40s stop n Go. I get it... don't speed, but we try to get to the limit before the line and being on the brakes slowing is not excessive if you just time it wrong. 10s would be better, as you might only be gaining 2-3s by speeding up to the line. If it's obviously excessive then it needs to be 30-40s.

Yeahh, sure thing the iRacing penalty system is outdated, i get a hit from back in first lap T1 and i also get 4x :D Why i get 4x if i didnt doing wrong? The netcode also worse, i followed someone, tried pass him and i get a 4x without contact :D so yeahh this system is outdated and bad

Whats broken is that you have a 25-man field in a 3k sof where there's 10 smurfs who don't care about the penalty system. iRacing officials has become a place where you let smurfs pass you and wait for them to take out somebody else; never attack, never defend - rack up points wherever you can. If you crash, you take a 150 iRating loss because 10 people who's better than you is on a 3k smurf instead of their 7k+ main.

The slowdown mechanic is so bad, if you "cut the course" and don't gain time, you still get 1s of slowdown, it absolutely kills races and all the fun. Meanwhile in ACC it works so well...

ACC is the other way. You can completely cut out a section of track and just get a warning. Raceroom has it nailed I think

@@davecamm I agree with RaceRoom having it nailed. I just started racing there and if you cut, you get a fixed amount and around a minute to serve it. Nothing escalates, nothing forces you to make sudden evasive maneuvers and quick slowing down. No added danger to people racing around you. It should always be a fixed penalty based on some form of calculation, escalation just does not make any sense!

It seems a little odd that apparently everything under the sun will potentially benefit from the increased use of AI, but when it comes to an online penalty system for sim-racing, it's not even mentioned as a future possibility?! If a driver of Dave's calibre is scrabbling around for SR then it seems the current system isn't an accurate measurement.

The Iracing penalty is insanely bad. I had a guy dive bomb corners to rail my bumper 3x. I won the race and they finally took themselves out but I lost safety rating because I had a 12x. I qualified pole and never even had to worry about a car beside me to defend or be considered blocking. They need to fix how the hand out punishment. Anyone above .5 gap and open area to enter corners shouldn't be penalized because someone can't properly apply brakes and race.

Iracing has become the joke of the sim racing world anymore. Thier cars are way behind the curve when compared to IRL cars, the penalty system is non existent, and racing, no matter the split, is a shit show.

Not ruffled in the least, just stating facts. To be honest, I have been off the sim for a year now going through a divorce, so try again. Being off of it for awhile gives some clarity on the flaws.

@@simaddiction good for you. But being so salty just makes you the "butt of the story". Keep away from it if that is your thing, but writing salty comments on videos of a game you dont like shows you actually still care about the game.
