I tested which battery saw has the longest battery life, the most power and overall best build.
In my opinion these are the best 305mm Battery mitre saws on the market so I had to make this review comparing them to each other.
This is the Makita® 40V 4.0Ah Brushless Slide Compound Saw VS DeWALT 54V 9.0Ah XR 305mm Flexvolt Sliding Mitre Saw

DeWalts battery capacity figures are misleading. The 9Ah figure is for 18V. At 54V, they are only 3Ah. That's also equivalent to 6Ah at 36V (40V), so 50% larger than the Makita.

After reading this I looked at my battery and you’re right, they do only have the 9amp label with the 18V. Thankyou for letting me know this! I’ve pinned your comment so everyone else can see this!

@@lachlanmacrae5560 Yes, you're right, I got the maths wrong there. KZfaq won't let me edit the comment now.

I really wanted to live the makita - the up front controls are appealing for sure. It’s heavy as sin. Their most heavy duty stand when folded would tip over in a slight breeze. The battery would die fast (maybe why the kit comes with 2). The blade wobbled like mad, and would cut in an arc. Customer service… steaming pile of dung. Dewalt - I only had to charge the battery 4x to side my entire house, including trim. It’s a 1400sqft ranch. Cuts just as well as a corded saw - sure the adjustments are slightly clumsy, but they work. Dust collection: don’t let any of the KZfaq videos fool you. Neither is fantastic. Both are decent. But the addition of a Rousseau 5000 takes care of all that.

Good video, takes a lot of time and effort I’m sure. With the Makita being a 4ah 40v battery (144 watt hours) and the Dewalt being a 3ah 54v battery (162 watt hours), we should maybe be looking at cuts per watt hour as a fair comparison? Also, the blades should both be the same brand and tooth count for it to be really fair. I get you’re doing a comparison of how they come out of the box though. Enjoyed the video nonetheless 👍

The reason why you were getting better cut times with a Makita even though the Dewalt had higher RPMs is because you usually sacrifice torque for RPMs or RPMs for torque. So, even though the Dewalt has higher RPMs, the Makita probably has more torque, which is why there was less resistance.

That may be true in most case, I don’t think it’s the case here. The Dewalt blade that came with the tool is actually trash

Do note that you consistently use the unit Amps (A) when you should be using Amp hours (Ah). It's the difference between km/h and km. In other words, they are totally different units.

it’s crazy to me they are so closely priced there the dewalt mitersaw is 849 usd as a kit 1 battery here and the makita is 1500 usd as a kit 1 battery i bought the dewalt tool only for 490 usd on sale

Milwaukee's batteries also vary in side-label design between the US and Australia... many KZfaqrs have been accused by trolls of having mistakenly bought a fake battery. As if a fully-qualified tradesman wouldn't know where to get a genuine battery for their tool platform. Lol.

Makita blade has a thiner blade than dewalt which equals less resistance, faster to cut and more cuts per Amp-hour. Can be seen at 9:43.

The Makita has a soft start motor, that’s why you can’t just jam it into the board right away.

It's not just about the number of cuts made, but rather the power available to cut say, thick timber or even green oak. Surely this would favour the de Walt (extra voltage) Also factors such as ease of set up, portability and accuracy have to go into the equation too, which may give the Makita an edge.

Dewalt batteries fit all 20v tools. More options. With Makita, you gotta spend big on all new toys and batteries.

some of those cuts are sus 😂 surprising any other saw is outclassing dewalt saws in power, maybe should have used the same blades to really see the difference in power.

I’ve checked all the local suppliers around me, and they all sell this saw with a 4amp (which is also what I bought the saw with) I don’t have access to a 5 or 8 amp battery, would have loved to test them if I had them!

The 9ah dewalt battery is a 3 ah battery at 60v so it's a decently close test.
