A lovely walk around Burley Dave, I used to drive through a place called ‘Pratts Bottom’, near Orpington many years ago Dave🙂🙂 ‘Long Pond’ looked so lovely & Tranquil Dave, the reflections of the blue sky, white clouds looked very peaceful & quiet. 🙂🙂

A few years ago, there was talk of reopening the railway line as far as Ringwood, but like a lot of other schemes, talking about them and actually doing them are two different things. Lovely fungi around and that pond looked good in summer. Interesting story about the hill fort and the dragon. Knights were very good at slaying dragons, if the old tales are to be believed. Tree roots are very attractive when they’re exposed on banks. We’ve got a lot of those around here, especially with the sunlight on them. That cider house, I assume is on the A31 side of the village. Can’t recollect seeing that place..Thanks for a wonderful walk Dave.

PS the fact that these are 40 or 50 ft or more in height is what sets them apart from the average Tumuli which average more like 10 ft - and according to the said ancient O/S map and my local knowledge, none exist elsewhere in the District at least. This is the first time I’ve seen this area since the demise of our black Labs so Thankyou Sir. 🐢🏴😇😁

Do you know anything about the unusually high & circular symmetry of the huge Tumuli at the western side of Dur Hill Down & straddling the old railway route ? One is named Brown Loaf on O/S maps and south of the ‘ railway’ one has the old perambulation boundary cutting over its peak. I’ve a 1806 O/S map which thanks to the contour shading demonstrates these unusual features. Short of my finding an old timer from the village , knowledge or even a mention of these appears very scant . Will watch your presentation now 🙄Regards from a few miles SE in less interesting Hordle 👍
