Ha! Funny thing about your "Jewish version of Louis Armstrong" comment... He had some Jewish roots. I forget exactly, but he was either adopted by a Jewish family or was taught by a Jewish musician. Something like that... You can often hear it in his playing. He would sometimes slip into that Eastern European vibe.

that is true and I think you are correct that he was "adopted" by a Jewish couple and I believe he wore a "chai" necklace as an adult..

thank you for the video, Dave! Great hints to break the routine! also, if it's about phrases, I'm thinking about another good way to break the routine: the place where one starts his phrase. It can be on 1, 2, 3, 4 or and1, and2, and3, and4. One tendency is for a player to always start in the same place. Of course, out of these 8 options, some are better, usually the ones more close to the next bar: and4, 4, and3, 3; (these can give more flow and a better contour to phrasing)

Very important masterclass. I would also add another tip which is: Changing the place of the beat where the phrase starts and where it ends. If you always start the phrase on beat 1, change that to either the "and" of 1 or beat 2, or any other beat.

I am really thankful for this I believe learning jazz isn’t necessarily that hard and I liked the mind body piano concept which I’ve heard by another dude (danthecomposer). This is fricking crazy man but thank u
