A great Merseyside derby from Goodison in September 1985 featuring some great goals and amazing misses.

What a goal by the King! He was in his mid 30s by then but still produced the magic. To beat probably the best goalie in Europe at the time like that wow!

Dalglish is a class act as a player, manager, and as a man. Best Scottish player ever.

Some matches in the first half of the season were recorded for broadcast in other countries, during the dispute that affected coverage in the UK. The Liverpool games recorded were, as far as I know, West Ham, Everton, Man Utd and Arsenal (all away).

In all the Merseyside derby games I've watched on here, thats got to be the most oppo fans in the home end. Not saying 'ever', just what I've seen. Such a shame it's not like that anymore.

The Liverpool end is all scallies . What a support we had pre Hillsborough. We still have good fans but half the crowd seem like wools and tourists the last 20years

Nice 1 dave , this is my favourite Derby followed by a very close second Anfield 87 - 88 Derby .
@of_doom_and_steel4772 жыл бұрын
One of the 87-88 games was one of the first I ever watched on TV, and the commentators were talking about the "Liverpool-Everton derby match", and I said "what? are there three teams playing: Liverpool, Everton and Derby?"

Those really were the days my friend..... I was in the paddock near the park end. Couldn’t see the king Kennys first goal but remember going mental. It rained all day and my Liverpool, sun hat turned pink on the way up Carisbroke Rd after the game heading to The Mons. Happy days though,, loads of reds in the Gladwys St ....get in there red men.

Wow. Just wow. To beat Southall from there takes something special. Everything about that strike was exquisite.
@DaveWallerLFC4 жыл бұрын
Presumably you mean Kenny's goal, as McMahon's stike to beat Southall at his near post from that far out was also impressive. Kenny's goal is unlike any other I can think of. Who would think to shoot from there with the outside of the right foot? Genuis.

@@DaveWallerLFC Indeed I do mate. There are some things about Kenny that just make me nod my head and acknowledge he is a class act.

I managed to get two tickets for this game on the Street end and before kick-off, my dad said, 'now remember, we're in the Everton end, so don't be jumping up and down if we (Liverpool) score'. Then Kenny puts one in the top corner in the first minute and I couldn't help myself. Suddenly it became apparent that there were hundreds of Liverpool fans jumping up and down with me. So much for segregation - didn't need it.

I was there that day. I went with a workmate it was the first time I went with him to a game. After being 3-0 down at half time I never went with the bleeding jinx again.

Would be interested to know where these highlights are from as there was no British TV coverage of football I believe during the early part of the 85/86 season.

Interesting spelling of Dalglish from someone who criticises other people's spelling and grammar.
