Thank you obi wan, 😂yes you are right, I’m not really an expert I just plant them where there is room. With little or no space in my garden, I don’t have the option of colour coordination.

I only have a few DA here in Melbourne and Princess Anne is one of the best performer with non stop blooming for 2 months from Oct to Nov( spring here). Your garden is filled to the brim with beautiful roses and I urge you not to give up on Princess Anne😌.

Wow! Your garden is packed with flowers Ken, lots of colours there. The sun is out now since yesterday in my area and this is what I’m afraid, newly opened blooms are right away baked by too much heat when the last days there was just rain and too much water. Most of the roses are sturdy and you can see which one is a good performer in your garden. Your garden tour is refreshing, Eustacia Vye looks fantastic, mine is not happy at all. I was surprised with your comments to the rose Queen of Sweden, she is everybody’s darling and you just set here aside🤣. She looks beautiful to me, although the scent is also important to me. Summer Romance has a lovely scent at first but after a few days, the base note is becoming stronger like earthy patchouli. Gabriel Oak, first time I saw it from Jay Jay and I’m really going to get hold of him this year with Bathsheba, they are my favourite lovers in Thomas Hardy’s ‘Far from the madden crowd’. Minerva is stunning, fabulous colour. Is it almost the same colour of your Chinese wisteria? Well done Ken! Send my regards to your sister!🌹🌹🌹🌹

Hello Gemma, thank you for your lovely comment. Yes often we complain about our roses never getting enough sunshine, and when we do, our roses suffer. Queen of Sweden is favourite amongst many but she doesn’t do anything for me. I have few kordes which will due to bloom and one particular one from Meiland has just flowered and the scent is super amazing ( parfuma de Provence). I so please with the new ones I purchased from Meiland and kordes, I don’t think I will be buying another Da rose again. Gabriel oak is definitely a winner along with James L austin, eustacia , Emily Brontë…. Ahhhh …so many. Thank you my my sisters regards, I will pass it on to her. In the mean time I shall be keeping a close eye on your parfuma’s reviews as I need to dig up a few under performing da roses.

Hi Ken, love your videos and your sense of humour! Silas Marner is a really good rose for me in part shade and holding flower petals really well in 3rd year in fact I cut one and it lasted really well in a vase. It has so many flowers so it needs some support, but it’s one of the strongest scented in my garden such beautiful fresh scent that carries really well!🎉

@kenvoong5977 Ай бұрын
Thank you veronigue, yes Silas marner is a very good scented rose. I need to move it to partial shade. The stems are quite thin and needs support due to the masses of blooms.

Lovely Ken. The most amazing colour arrangement of roses. I always thought that from the first time I saw one of your videos. If anything it looks even better now. Your James Austin is looking fantastic. A wonderful video Ken the pressure is back on your sister now! P.s Are you sure your roses in the back garden are getting enough water? I only say that because it wasn’t a baking hot day today and when I look back over old footage on some of my videos, I now see from that footage my roses were screaming at me “give me a drink” 😂😂. I know you’re not as dumb as me but thought I’d ask. X

Hi JayJay, lol it’s not me she’s after because she knows not to mess with me. It’s Dilly with the cute dog she’s after.. I’m not like my sis with pink borders and white borders. I just plant anything where ever I can depending on how much sun ☀️ certain varieties needs. To be honest I may have over done it. Most gardens like yours have grass and other companion plants which all look easy on the eye . Mine is like giving a girl a bunch of roses 🌹 then having it smacked right in your face with face full of roses. Very embarrassing 😳 P.s i cheated Jay because I did both parts on the same day when the weather was hot 🥵 . Just as well the weather in my area turn bad the next few days. It’s now or never. Very observant JayJay, You got me there mate!!!

@@kenvoong5977 haha if it was down to me Ken I’d have a garden full of roses aswell. Maybe a good thing we have wives to keep us in check ;. I didn’t realise that I just looked at the footage and wasn’t sure if some in the back garden needed a good drink. Like I say I made that mistake before myself and wish i’d put a garden hose on for 10 minutes on each rose! But you will know of course you see them for real :)

11:18 I'm happy for the upright and long-lasting bloom on Queen of Sweeden. It tolerates heat well, and the lack of scent dont really bother me. Nice video, as always, Ken.

You have a beautiful garden Ken .I love seeing your roses and your little island looks great with the Peonies. I kept getting a waft of a lovely smell when I was out gardening today and it was coming from Gentle Hermione. I'm not good at describing scents like some people. Your sister Lin is very successful at taking cuttings. It is nice that you can share roses with each other. Did your parents grow roses when you were growing up or is it something you started enjoying when you got your first house? Your Wisteria is stunning as is that purple rose. What a gorgeous colour!

Hi Wendy, thank you for your kind comment. Yes my sis Lin loves taking cuttings for fun. I was always fond of orchids for many years and only had possibly 1 rose bush when I bought my first house,. I was such an amateur back then and knew nothing about roses. I really got obsessed when I bought this house from my sister and she gave me a rose called mum in a million. Since then I’ve been obsessed and my sister who was obsessed with peonies back then. Now we both share the same interest. Sharing the same common interest is the most motivating thing about roses, it’s not the same if you just grow them and just enjoy it for yourself. Sharing this passion with rose lovers like you Wendy is what motivate me and many others😊

Hi Ken, Another lovely look around your beautiful garden and roses; thank you. I do like the way one blends in with another and I like your thoughts on each rose. I know this is unfair but if you could only have four roses what would they be, maybe five? I guess Gabriel Oak might be one but I might be wrong. I really enjoyed the video and look forward to the next one on scent. P.

Hi Peter, 5 certainly would be difficult to choose, 10 would make my life a lot easier. Yes Gabriel would be one, eustacia vye , Emily Brontë, princess Alexandra and wollerton old hall for the strong mhrrr fragrance… that would also be leaving out bring me sunshine, destemona and royal jubilee , poets wife and lady gardener. Lol…. 🥲 . My new additions ( not da) many also in that category in comparison which I haven’t shown. I will be uploading them this week.

Hi Ken, I've moved my Silas Marner out of a shady spot and into a sunnier position 😅 Will let you know if there's any improvement. What do you do with the roses that disappoint you ? Happy sniffing.

Hi Kevin, so was Silas not doing well in partial shade? Mine does fine in full sun but the petals are so fragile. Yes please update me , because I’m considering doing the opposite to you. I’ve dug up summer song last year and I will be dumping Darcy bussel this year for more prolific and healthier varieties of roses and not likely a David Austin as I have far too many already. Yes I really love a good sniff that’s why love fragrant roses regardless of breeder.

This morning I was trying to convince someone on KZfaq NOT to dig up their Gabriel Oak, which he said was floppy and needing constant support - so there is one drawback. Although I would rate it up there with Eustacia Vye, Desdemona and Lady of Shalott as my favourites. QoS is too tall and flowers too high, although Jay Jay suggested cutting it back hard early in the year to keep it low - and it's not a rose I have any affection for. You're a bit harsh on Judi Dench - I like her flowers! I think it was Gardener Ben who was raving about Silas Marner - didn't he rate it as his number one rose one year? I am not at all impressed by it - really floppy and flowers which do nothing for me. Sceptered Isle (I know that's not the correct spelling but Shakespeare's version confuses people - it means Island (Britain) ruled by a king/queen with a sceptre) - I loved the scent when I saw it in a garden centre last week, so that's a maybe purchase. You were lucky (?) with the weather - not that warm here just a bit further north than you. Anyway, thanks for the tour, your opinions and recommendations - interesting as always. Your garden(s) are looking really good at the moment, packed with colour.

😂lol you notice the weather too. Yes today was over cast and windy here too. I actually did part 2 of the video on the same day as it was sunny. How can Gabriel be floppy? One of the best prolific rose in my garden. I suppose a good rose in the wrong hands can be fatal. I can’t judge Silas too soon yet as she is still fairly new in my garden. I will most likely dig up Darcy and Alnwick next year and make way for better varieties next year. I knew knew how da came up with sceptre and the story behind it, interesting .
