9 жыл бұрын

Following his conscious freestyle at the Hip-Hop Cypher at the BET Awards, David Banner swings by Sway in the Morning to speak his mind. He has a message to our culture and gives us tips and a probable solution.
"How can black people be held accountable for things they do, when they don't know what they're doing." Says Banner. "We don't know why we hate ourselves. We don't know why we're doing what we do."
Further more, he suggests to have a strong "Knowledge of self" and tells us to "create our own. Distribute our own, and buy our own." While comparing ourselves to the "White Supremacy."

David Banner mentioned that people don't listen to conscious rap because it is (musically) wack...I totally agree. KRS referred to his approach as Edutainment. To be effective, the music and the message must be both entertaining and educational. If the balance isn't met, it only makes a great recipe for boredom.
@tim3yin
@tim3yin 9 жыл бұрын
I totally disagree with that, the main reason people don't listen to conscious rap is because it is not cool to be conscious no more. even conscious rappers don't want to be called conscious rappers no more, thats how bad that shit is. back in the day consciousness was cool and it had nothing to do with the beat or the music behind it.

Conscious rap and real hiphop isn't musically wack that other shit is!!!
@avidcunnilingist4548
@avidcunnilingist4548 9 жыл бұрын
tim3yin The beat and the music have always mattered...BECAUSE IT'S FUCKIN MUSIC! If the music didn't matter, then it wouldn't it make more sense just to go read a book? The only reason conscious rap ain't cool today is because it doesn't sound cool. ...And it doesn't sound cool because it lacks energy - which makes it fuckin boring! Public Enemy made shit that everybody moved to, and delivered an insightful message that transcended the typical demographic, BECAUSE IT WAS ENTERTAINING. 911 is a joke, Fight the Power, Night of the Living Baseheads, Don't Believe the Hype...Have you ever heard of Whodini?...these were conscious records that were played at block parties dawg. ...So what the fuck are you talkin about? Niggaz limit themselves to making music that is two dimensional and then don't understand why no one listens. It's not due to the content, nor the cliched claim of attention deficit (though the latter may actually hold some weight) it's simply because it is packaged incorrectly. Earlier conscious rap records brought the message to the party, and a party with the message. How the fuck can dead music uplift?

I just recently heard the stories of how slave babies were used as Alligator bait. Black babies used as if they were worms or shrimp or something less than human. I appreciate this interview, not only does it get my mind motor running but it sparks my interest & makes me feel as though there is most definitely something I can do to help better black communities & just the mind frame of young black adults. We all have a purpose, we just have to execute our duties. Things can change & they will. Not to sound cliché or black panther-ish, but WE have to come TOGETHER as a PEOPLE.

To see and hear another brother or sister search true knowledge is a blessing. Our search for self is the way to our true freedom. Stop looking for the answers through the devil's glasses. The bible, the koran, drop them!!! We were here before those concepts even existed. We are the descendants of survivors of oppression, slavery and the middle passage. Realize our strength.

No fam, it is you that don't get it. I know we all come from a place, we have a walk to get to the truth and maybe you are of the many who just won't get it. I completely disagree and I use to think like you before I came into the knowledge of The Most High. Even if you don't believe in THE FATHER common sense has to kick in at some point when you look around and know that things don't just "happen" upon themselves, we were not created out of thin air with no spirit behind us. being the force of our existence. Keep thinking you are GOD and see how far you get when this all goes up in smoke...you will be among the ashes. I hope you find your way.

I had converted them from blogtalk radio shows. the speakers on there talks about nationalizing, and how *the vast majority of us were already in america* {north,central,south and the islands} and how we are indigenous here but were taught we came on "slave ships". dont believe me check out this link. they are old pictures dating back to the 15-1600s depicting who and how the true natives looked like. king black no one man can be a "sovereign" with out his nation being behind him. that i can agree with. but to say that a people who once thought the world was flat can take 6ft africans on ships by the millions by force and do it consecutively for 5 centuries would be buying into the bullshit and giving those foreigners too much credit. not saying *some* were not brought over. just a perverse exaggeration of what happened. if you agree to the so called black man/woman being indigenous to the planet how can you disagree with a large majority of us already being here? im pretty sure its alot more easier {and cheaper} to enslave an entire people on their own land than traveling thousands of miles away risking life and limb for free labor. its grown so outrageous even politicians, who are all masons and know the real history, are telling the truth. *read this* www.rvbeypublications.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderfiles/RahmEmanuelProclamation.pdf

I want to see him take on O'Reilly. With his knowledge and charisma Banner can shut him down. But, I'm not sure if it would be worth anymore than a spectacle rather than enlightenment to an audience who is beyond out of touch with ignorance.

Peace Kings and Queens. Love David Banner only recently because I stopped listening to rap/hip hop when it became unconscious and low frequency. I noticed him during these recent movements and am so thankful for his voice and presence. I'm hoping you and Sway and Heather and Cornel West and others help elevate our consciousness and allow us to evolve. Maybe we should bring the movement back? Love and light.

This man is spot on on many things!! Any problems in our community need to be addressed within the community first. We can't continue to look outside our community for help even when those issues originate outside our community. Much respect to David Banner and Sway for hair hm!

One thing I tell the black youth is when you graduate from highschool go take a trade first because this is the very thing that they took out of high schools or should i say black schools I've walked in many public schools and they don't have wood shop no more cooking classes or swim teams or music the and they do not have books i see teachers take money from there own paychecks and buy a few books and its sad that the children of tomorrow have a hard time i talk with college kids and they talk about the school loans that they have etc but i guarantee if you walk into a black public school right now today they have a football team and a basketball team so what is that teaching our children of tomorrow you can work for your oppressor to entertain that's it ...

Slavery is something that happened hundreds of years ago, after the old generation dies out, racism will go down a good bit, children nowadays are learning that it's okay to be okay with every race. The problematic part is that people still let words get to them especially racial slurs, if you desensitize the meaning of that word it can't hurt you. Also on the topic of the police, police aren't just dangerous to black people they are dangerous to all people, Cops are power hungry, and some may be racially driven to do bad things but looking at that and saying it's a "whites vs Blacks" thing is ridiculous, using a small portion of the caucasian population to categorize all white people would be like me, watching African Americans loot the stores in Ferguson, and thinking all Black people are like that. We as a race not colorized, but as the Human race, have to realize that racism can end with us, and everyone needs to look in the mirror and work on themselves before making assumptions about everyone else.

For the most part I agree. But one must continue to show hate for racial slurs because they were created to label ignorance and inferiority. Therefore they arena total injustice to humanity. So we must destroy it by showing recluse toward the ideas. That includes my fellow black people. Nigga has become integrated into our language and we run around calling each other my ignorance. But I respect your opinion nice to see individuality still exists.

the "powers that be" understand that racism is starting to fizzle out so they are using the media as a tool to keep whites and blacks at eachothers necks.

Also, during slavery we were forced to put lye in our hair if we did something bad, then blacks put lye in our hair to straighten it. Lastly, the slave master notice we wanted our hair straight so they began selling it to us. Thanks Mr. Banner much respect to you
