When I was 11 my jazz piano teacher made me play a 3 hour gig at a hotel lounge. At the beginning David Benoit came over and showed me a few chords and shook my hand. At the time I didn’t know who he was!

Is it weird that this is nostalgic for me even if I barely watched Peanuts as a kid? It just reminds me of simpler times when I was just a 7 year old who barely knew what the word "internet" meant living in a small town, reading magazines, comic books, having to wait until a certain time of the day to watch cartoons because I didn't have cable. It may sound more limited but I miss those days

That's the magic of Peanuts 😉
@TheDialysisDiva Жыл бұрын
Oh, you post 90's child. Life before the internet was simpler akin to childhood. I honestly feel for all of you post-90's children. I feel like you all didn't really get a full childhood experience. As a pre-internet baby (I'm not old! yet...) I also saw very little Peanuts as a kid. As a matter of fact, when I read Peanuts in your OP, I thought, OH yeah, that IS the name of that show. In my mind, it is and always has been Snoopy and Charlie Brown. I had a Snoopy snowball maker that would chip the ice. It had Snoopy in his iconic spot, on the roof of a dog house and you'd put ice cubes in the chimney and crank it so "snow" came out of the doggie door. It was adorable. Yet and still I wasn't watching Peanuts. I'm actually a little on the young side for Peanuts' heyday. I encourage all of you to turn off your glowing rectangle gadgets (yes your cell phone and computer) for a couple days. That restless feeling of boredom will give you space to reflect on life, and stimulate your creativity without an endless supply of cat videos or whatnot to distract you. YOU are a wonderful place to be. Don't be afraid of your own mind. Less influence from the group think machine will allow you to truly form a personality and opinions that are your own. Of course, you are human so those views and stances will change over time but it will be on your terms instead of the group think peer pressure that is way too active on the internet. The iternet is a tool that like any tool is only as good or evil as the one who wields it. I'm so happy for you this song brings you back to that childhood feeling of simplicity. It is a precious feeling in this world today, in a way it just was not in the past. Listen to it often.

I remember this song being the first one on the anniversary album, which I would play often on our old combination radio/CD player, for the entire month of December because this album was played for me just after I was developing my interests in music. I’d sit in my dad’s big, fuzzy recliner, lay down on our special red carpet we only brought out for Christmas season, and stare at the twinkling lights and ornaments of the Christmas tree I helped my mom set up. The snow would fall gently and plentifully outside, just the way I liked it, and I could bundle up at any time to immerse myself in the world that only appeared when it was cold (the snow fell MUCH more consistently back then.) Christmas Day was the best. I’d rush downstairs, check my stocking, marvel at the arrangement of presents, and then excitedly open them while my parents recorded me and my siblings on their camcorder. If we were lucky, we’d have made a gingerbread house in the days leading up to Christmas, from scratch, and then we’d tear it apart as we ate it, followed by hot chocolate, sometimes steamed chestnuts. This song will always remind me of those beautiful, long-gone days.

I've been an avid reader of 'Peanuts' since the mid 1960s when I was about 9 or 10. I got introduced to listening to jazz upon hearing Vince Guaraldi from watching the Peanuts TV specials. A great composite from the various cartoons that matches to the tune. This smooth jazzy version by Benoit very niiiiice keystrokes on the 88s.

I have it on my VHS tape of the 1990 TV special, "You Don't Look 40, Charlie Brown". Oddly enough, it seems that when they made the special, they cut up this video, added some clips of David Benoit at the piano, and had Mr. Schulz talking over the first half of the song. That plus the fact that even in this original music video, 2/3 of the solo was cut.
