Freddie was inspired by Bowie, not viceversa. Bowie was the weirdo who brought things like this to the televisions and he managed to pass through censorship because he was overall a class act, he looked neat and professional all the time, like a theatre actor, he was graceful like a ballet dancer, his music was both pleasant and surprisingly new, his lyrics were complex and poetic. You had to take Bowie seriously even when he was wearing a net leotard or had a feather boa around his neck because he knew how to move, how to act in that role, and he was singing about serious things. By comparison, some perfromers you see today are simply vulgar, there is no dept to their act, just exhibitionism.

Rather than the tv music video, when I hear this, I usually think of 1979's live performance on SNL with Klaus Nomi doing backup and the flashes of something the censors missed (the censors were, instead, way too focused on bleeping out a short phrase).

This was from the peroid when Bowie was collaborating with Brian Eno, recording what would become known as the Berlin Trilogy. On this song he wanted it to capture an amateurish sound so he had the musicians swap instruments with each other. For another great song from this era 'Sound and Vision' comes to mind.

I usually am not into the more esoteric and super weird Bowie music, but this one was quite fun. He was definitely ahead of his time with the drag. 🤣

Bowie wore a dress on the cover of "The Man Who Sold the World," which was released in 1971, just 4 years after the UK decriminalized homosexuality. He was dangerously ahead of his time. Quick question: why don't you ever let the songs finish?
