@@outsidethepyramid I think he meant more of the 1983-1988 period. The songwriting on Tonight was kind of (MEH), and Never Let Me Down's production was godawful. There were great songs written on that LP but it was barred down by production. Thankfully the 2018 re-recording did it justice.

The interviewer is did bloody well. Kept quiet and he knows his place. He's not his friend, he's here to give Bowie the floor. And he did JUST that. He wasn't there for his own enjoyment. He was more than likely smiling A LOT. Body language IS a thing.

+mano Fiske That's not true in Bowie's case. Bowie had great hair and a longtime hairdresser. That's how he met his wife Iman. She had the same hairdresser. He (the hairdresser) thought they would make the perfect couple, and invited them both to his birthday dinner in 1990. The rest, as they say, is history. By the way, Bowie is famous for his ever changing hair styles and hair color, thanks to his stylist. He even styled the couples' hair for Bowie and Iman's 1992 wedding in Italy.

He was one of those people you thought would always be there. I loved Bowie's earlier stuff, absolutely hated Diamond Dogs, but you knew that the next album would be completely different again and that you could plug back in. With Bowie, there was something for everybody and his massive influence on music over half a century can never be forgotten.

That's the first time I've heard the word loose described tastefully! In a long time at least! I didn't start listening to him til almost 3 years ago but I watch all the interviews. I have my favorites. And in almost all of them, you laugh, lol.

I like interviews where they just talk to him rather than ask him the same old question showing on a piece of paper.

Better to just shut up and let the other person speak if you don’t think you can add anything of value. Besides I like the fact that the more the interview just let Bowie talk the more we got. If anything the interviewer was fantastic and not making it about them or their ego

Exactly. There's no "correct" way to make art. You can start with an idea, or start with a process, or something else entirely, but it's wrong to say that there is only one way to do art. Sure certain mediums may lean one way or the other, but as long as you make a good piece of art, the process isn't going to discount that.

It was just a song that he wrote about how he felt about fame. No wonder he wrote it. They treated him like shit and he respected them thoroughly nomatter what. Even if he didn't answer the questions, he respected them. Even Jomathan Ross...that perv. I think he had the hots for Dave and Dave wasn't gonna have it. I think that Ross was just trying to bully him, but eww...nevertheless, Bowie could pick better if he was gonna go down that road.

I was devastated by the interviewer's follow up question to that. It was exciting to see his eyes and expressions as the thoughts zipped through his brain. I wanted to explore his thoughts to that end... Oh well..

You can also see from his reaction, his expression after that how alienated he felt, at least in this interview. It's a common occurrence for myself when talking to people, they just don't get what I'm talking about, very few do.

You're so right. I had the good fortune to meet him in 1987 and nothing was too much trouble for him. He was friendly, amusing, polite, charming and the most wonderful smile. He was so down to earth and treated you as an equal. I wish I could have spent more time with him, he was a real gentleman, they are few and far between these days. I do wish he hadn't done the drugs and smoking, though.
