Beautiful duet. Gail is beautiful, talented and I send my condolences to her along with David's family. An amazing man who released his last album days before his death. An album that is saying goodbye, how strong and defiant he was in looking death in the face and carrying on regardless. I absolutely loved him. Thank you for your music David, a completely unique artist.

+WalterSobchak1000 A rare genius indeed. The mere fact of his non-existence (an odd way to put it, admittedly) has blown a hole in my heart. The world is a lesser place without him. And sadly, we all know that the day will come when Keith and Mick and Paul and Ringo will pass too, and I'm already bracing myself - or trying to - for those inevitabilities. I fear that Keith will be next. For a man in his early '70's, he looks like a man in his late '80's, something I say not out of judgement, but mere objectivity. David didn't look none too well either in the videos from The Next Day. He looked every single solitary hour of his existence, and then some, which was a little odd, considering that he'd discontinued abusing his body with drugs and alcohol completely by the early '90's and had even stopped smoking ciggies. But then, no one is guaranteed tomorrow, is one? Thank you, Walter, for your beautiful words.
@michelle889608 жыл бұрын
+WalterSobchak1000 An ironic first line isn't it? He gave so much and was a lovely man with a great sense of humour. I grew up with his music. So sad he's gone. The end of an era.

It's 1/28, 20 days after his 69th birthday, 18 days after his passing and I'm absolutely tearful. When he sings "I absolutely love you" there's such a purity, there's so much force and resolute certainty in his voice, it just slays me. I've been a fan since late '72, I've loved him my entire life, bought all his albums, saw him nine times in concert between September of '74 and February of '04 and I haven't missed anyone as much as I miss him. Blackstar and Lazarus blew me out of the water. He was at the height of his powers - again - and then...gone. Pffft. As strongly as I felt about David as a teen, as much as he meant to me as a symbol of freedom and creativity and being yourself, my feelings are four times that now. I absolutely love him and I'll absolutely miss him, forever and some more. Additional comment: Here it is, 12/16/2020, 25 days short of the 5th anniversary of his passing and this song STILL gets me. When he gave Gail that kiss after the line, "The rest can go to hell," at 1:48 and the way she reacted, bam, my eyes welled up. And then with his arm around her shoulders and hers around his waist at 4:16 as they sing to each other, "I absolutely love you," that was it and the first tear broke free. Can you imagine having David Bowie put his arm and around you and sing, "I absolutely love you"? And I don't even mean that in a sexual way at all, just as one sentient being lovingly saying it to another in the purest, most wholesome, most reaffirming way. It's such a great song, so heartfelt, so unwavering in its unabashed declaration of love for another, JESUS! Back in January of '16, I wept throughout this song, tears streaming down my face from beginning to end. The depth of my grief was as striking and infinite as it was painful and constant. Yes, time heals all, as it's said, but the massiveness of the loss of David Bowie left a hole that has yet to fully close... and frankly, I doubt it ever will completely. How could it? David sang, "Something happened on the day he died Spirit rose a metre then stepped aside Somebody else took his place, and bravely cried (I'm a blackstar, I'm a blackstar)" but nobody will EVER take his place, bravely or otherwise. I've put together an amazing playlist (if I may be so immodest) of David's music. It covers the entirety of his career and I encourage any and all of you to listen to it and add it to your Spotify library. I go by the username of DavidStardust. open.spotify.com/playlist/7t2EMPUIpoPMLnWT8rlbTh?si=l4mXKa5FSpmAM2JJSbi8AQ

+Julie Tyler Not sure how to take that. Is that a question? I didn't say anything about privilege. Are you mocking my having seen him multiple times in concert? Or implying I was privileged to have seen him so many times? If the latter, I agree. If the former, well, I don't agree.
@calanais068 жыл бұрын
+TVC15ohoh Beautifully written... I can´t fathom your loss, having been a fan for so many years. Even it is only three months since his passing tomorrow, it feels longer. The world is emptier, less colourful. We can now only honour him by actually using the great knowledge he so graciously gave us. RIP, dear mr Bowie, and hugs to you, TVC15ohoh. (*edit* just listened to the video while writing so had to watch it again, now I am just crying, so sweet...)
@TVC15ohoh8 жыл бұрын
+calanais06 Thank you for your kind words. Out of all the Bowie videos I watched in the first couple of months after his passing, this one was the one that triggered the most emotion. It's an emotional song to begin with, since it's a declaration of love with such certitude and conviction, it's touching in it's own right. But add to that his performance of it and his interplay with Gail (and the way she looks at him,) all within the context of his recent unexpected and shocking passing and man oh man, it's a tinderbox of emotions waiting to explode. He even says right after the song ends that "there's a lot of love in the room" and he's absolutely right. There was. I was never sexually attracted to David, somewhat surprisingly, since he was a handsome if not beautiful man, but I certainly was emotionally connected to the guy. I always appreciated and admired him, even as a kid, and as time went on, I really came to love him - not as a lover, but as a beloved eccentric uncle or older brother or very dear friend. He was so darn special and unique- and so damn charming and charismatic, good God! How could you not love him? I lost someone (millions of us did) who was so near and dear to me that it was literally like losing a part of myself when he passed on. I wish I could put my arms around him and hug him for an hour. I miss him SO MUCH! (Ah Christ, now I'm getting teary-eyed again. Damn.)

I'm leaking tears again... Not only was David Bowie an amazing singer and artist, he just seemed like a wonderful man. I never met him or saw him live, but it is obvious to me after seeing countless interviews with him. Sorry for his family. I was the exact same age his daughter is when I lost my dad ( my dad was only weeks older than David by the way, so he died even younger nearly 20 years ago). I wish David's family much love and support. I am sure they are getting that too, as good people attract other good people most of the time.

I'm just guessing here (absolute beginner, as it were), but I think it's how he pulls back the mic so it doesn't catch the hard sibilants. He also retreats gracefully for louder, breathier lines and leans in for the quieter, more articulate bits. But I could be accidentally spouting utter shit, so I'd take my guess with a grain of salt. 🖤🌟
