and I am sure you will have read who played on this album but just in case you havent, note that Bowie played all of the guitar on this album. As we know he was also a very proficient saxaphone and piano player (in fact toured as Iggy Pop's pianist in 1977). The point I am making is that he wasn't just an amazing singer and songwriter but also had the musical talent to augment that

Mr. Todd, I watch all of your Bowie reactions!! This is on my top 5 list of favorite Bowie songs and by the way narrowing down just 5 is almost impossible! I'd love for you to listen to this on the David Live at the Tower Philadelphia. It's just as awesome. David's vocals here are outstanding. I love all Bowie but right now I'm all over Young Americans album. So full of soul and funk. As Bowie used to sign off... "Love on ya"!!!! ⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡

Was going to type the same thing. Diamond Dogs was underrated as an album though I'm not over keen on the title track, maybe it being an 1984 concept album distracted people from how good many of the tracks are.

The song that converted me to being a full-on Bowie fan in 1983. I had heard many of his songs all through the 70”s, but had never paid any attention because I considered his music “too out there” (my musical taste had been very safe and unadventurous until a friend made me a mix tape including this track. His lyrics and music and his voice for this create an environment so real, you can almost smell and taste it and his commentary about the relationship between celebrity and the media/society is still spot-on - anyone famous having to deal with the sycophants and groupies and back-stabbers. It is grotesquely beautiful. If you want another strong, but not mainstream song, Joe The Lion, Neukoln, Sense of Doubt or Secret Life of Arabia from the Heroes album are great; Scream Like A Baby or It’s No Game (side one) from Scary Monsters or The Motel or We Prick You from Outside I think are all amazing songs. Thanks for real reactions - I can’t stand all these KZfaqrs who give exaggerated reactions to things just because they think that’s what a viewer needs to see to be entertained.

I'd only ever heard Bowie on the radio (he wasn't to my parents taste), then, when I was twelve, my neighbour decided to replace her Bowie collection and offered me her old albums. I listened to everything from 'The Man Who Sold The World' to 'Hero's' repeatedly over the first weekend and I was hooked.

As you may be aware, Bowie wanted to make a musical of George Orwell's book 1984 but Orwell's familty would not allow him to do so. Diamond Dogs was a relic of this but you can hear the theatricality of all the tracks on this album and you can hear how the tracks were written orignally for a stage production.

Oh yes, you get it! It's been a long time since I've commented on song reactions due to issues in my life, but this reaction has inspired me. I appreciate you recording it. David Fisher, Kevin D, Valerie Kokenge, Alan Priest, Anthony Darby, and Anthony McKeever won't steer you wrong. Definitely be prepared to take their comments into consideration as you go down your David Bowie reaction path. I recommend these twelve David Bowie deep cuts for you to react to: 1. Conversation Piece (1969 version), which is a song which David had left off of his 1969 self-titled second album which had later been rereleased as Space Oddity. It had been added as a bonus track during the 1990s for CD editions of it called Rykodiscs. I expect that you know and love the song Space Oddity which had been its single. I feel that Conversation Piece is a song of equal beauty. 2. We Are the Dead, which is my favorite song from Diamond Dogs, I love even more than this one. It's haunting, romantic, and terrifying. If you haven't read 1984 by George Orwell which the Diamond Dogs album is based on, this song will absolutely still grip you. 3. My Death (live, Hammersmith Odeon 1973), which is an English cover of a French song by Jacques Brel which had been titled La Mort. Scott Walker had previously recorded an English cover of it, which had caught David's attention. This is one of my favorite live performances of David's on a vocal and visual level. David hadn't recorded it because Jacques Brel hadn't recorded a song titled Amsterdam, which David had recorded an English cover of. My Death had been strictly a live cover for David's concerts. 4. Win, which is a song from David's Young Americans album which is often overlooked. It's one of David's favorite songs of his, which he'd chosen to include on his iSelectBowie compilation album late in his career. It's as much of a soul song as he'd ever released. 5. Lady Grinning Soul, which is a song from David's The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars follow up, Aladdin Sane, which had been released a year before Diamond Dogs. It's one of the classiest David Bowie songs. It's my partner's favorite David Bowie song. 6. As the World Falls Down ("movie version" with Trevor Jones' Hallucination instrumental as an intro), which is a main thematic song of the movie Labyrinth and plays during a scene in which David had danced with Jennifer Connelly inside of a crystal ball. This is my favorite David Bowie song. 7. Letter to Hermione, which is another song from David's second album which is about the first woman who he had fallen in love with. Her name is Hermione Farthingale, and she and David had been in a band called Feathers together. She'd broken up with him to pursue an acting career. She's an inspiration for his song Life On Mars?, as well. This is my second favorite David Bowie song. 8. Teenage Wildlife, which is a song from David's album Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps) which uses a demo take of Robert Fripp's guitar riff from his song Heroes as its main riff. This one's a lyrical and vocal masterpiece, in my estimation. It's my third favorite David Bowie song. 9. The Drowned Girl, which David had recorded for his run in a television adaptation of a Bertolt Brecht production which is titled Baal, in which David had portrayed the character Baal. This song is as close to opera as David had gotten. It's very dark and sad. 10. Shining Star (Makin' My Love) (Never Let Me Down 1987 original album version), which is a song which many David Bowie fans don't like because of its 1980s campiness, but I love because it's lyrically complex, musically diverse, and incredibly performed vocally and instrumentally. Mickey Rourke has a rap verse in it. Please don't let the idea of it deter you. It's fascinating. 11. Girls, which is a track which David had left off of Never Let Me Down and presented to Tina Turner to record as a single as a token of their friendship. David had included it as a b-side on singles for his song Time Will Crawl, as well as later a bonus track on Virgin Records CD versions of Never Let Me Down. 12. Silly Boy Blue, which is a song which is on David's debut self-titled album, which is about David's philosophies regarding Tibetan Buddhism. I feel that it's extraordinary, and many haven't listened to David's 1960s songs. His lyrics and vocals are excellent. He'd found his stride early on in his career. What you've heard of David Bowie being one of the greatest songwriters and vocalists of all time is undeniable. He has over 400 released songs, and few of them are below average. My favorite David Bowie albums are Young Americans, the Labyrinth soundtrack, Diamond Dogs, Aladdin Sane, and Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps). All David Bowie albums are great. The least great of them grow on relistens. You're familiar with The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars and Let's Dance. Hunky Dory, Station to Station, Low, Heroes, and 1. Outside are often viewed as being artistic masterpieces. David Bowie, David Bowie (Man of Words/Man of Music/Space Oddity), The Man Who Sold the World, Pin-Ups, Lodger, Tonight, Never Let Me Down, two self-titled albums with Tin Machine, Black Tie White Noise, The Buddha of Suburbia, Earthling, 'hours...', Heathen, Reality, and The Next Day are often underrated. I feel that you'll appreciate all of them. I hope that David Bowie's music will inspire you across the board. He'd been the only artist in history who'd possessed his creativity, diversity, ethics, and skill simultaneously. Also, watching his movies is exciting. The Man Who Fell to Earth, Just a Gigolo, Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence, Absolute Beginners, Labyrinth, and The Prestige are fantastic. Please have wonderful experiences, Todd! 😃😄

Just as these 3 tracks go directly into one another, so these also meld right into "Rebel Rebel". _Diamond_ _Dogs_ is more thematic than many of his other albums. It was too bad that Bowie never got to complete the _1984_ project - he was certainly capable of turning it into an independent story - but he would soon fall into a cocaine spiral which nearly killed him and that took several years from which to recover. Yes, the "Candidate" section lyrics really drive home the project's theme of desperate, damaged people doing anything to survive. As for suggestions... "Aladdin Sane", "Lady Grinning Soul", "My Death (the 1973 Hammersmith Odeon performance during which Bowie killed off the Ziggy character), "The Man Who Sold the World", "We Are the Dead", "Pablo Picasso", "Fall Dog Bombs the Moon" (his ode to Dick Cheney), "Wild Is the Wind", "Cat People" (original version - not the later dance track), "Seven Years in Tibet"

Bowie said this album was originally intended to be "1984 the Musical" and it has the structure of a musical, though it is more clear on vinyl as the intermission is in the flip from side one to side two. Opening track sets the scene as the protagonist enters the neighborhood and it is all new, Sweet Thing-Candidate-Sweet Thing introduces us to the main character and what they are looking for, Rebel-Rebel declares the main character has found a place in the neighborhood. INTERMISSION / flip to side two. first song after intermission, they are solidly part of the neighborhood. We are the Dead, 1984, Big Brother is where the problems are developed and how it plays out.

There is a scene in South Park: Bigger, Longer and Un-cut which I believe references STCSTR. The scene I am referring to is the one in which the character Kenny is doing what I assume to be ascending to heaven over which there is a song being sung in a melody that I find very reminiscent of STCSTR. If this interests you please check it out for yourself.

Every Bowie fan has a different top list of songs that probably changes. Mine does! Not like some artists that have their best of lists that you can listen to and get an idea of what they’re music sounds like. And the mass produced best of list for Bowie really isn’t (his best). My personal favorites are: sound & vision, fantastic voyage, heroes, seven years in Tibet(mandarin), cat people (soundtrack) acoustic loving the alien, Moonage daydream, the man who sold the world, changes, days, Heathen(the rays), lady grinning soul…

I see that you have heavy metal reactions on your channel. There are two songs which I feel that it would be awesome for you to react to: 1. M.I.A. by Avenged Sevenfold, which is my favorite song which exists. I feel that it's got incredible vocals, guitars, bass guitar, and drums. It's an immensely emotionally impactful song with stellar melodic arrangements. 2. Set the World Afire by Megadeth, which is the first Megadeth song which Dave Mustaine had written, on a bus after being fired from being Metallica's lead guitarist. It's classy, dark, aggressive, groovy, and complex, with great lyrics. It's always incredible to watch someone appreciating melodic music, heavy music, and melodic heavy music. All of the best to you, Todd! 😃😄
