Since you are doing originals vs remakes may I suggest David Bowie vs Wallflowers the song Heroes. It’s a pretty big difference in tones I think you may like. Plus the lead singer of The Wallflowers is Bob Dylan’s son Jacob. Also with these original vs remake songs it would be interesting to see your reaction to them back to back in one video by your reaction to the differences right after I’d love to hear,

Bowie was, socially, ahead of his time. Back in the early eighties he called out MTV for the lack of black artists on the channel. He had noticed that they played almost exclusively white artists. He asked in an interview why they didn’t play more videos by black artists. It changed very quickly after that.
@cinaedpv
@cinaedpv 3 жыл бұрын
@Gerald H To be honest, this was back in the beginning. MTV started in 1980. The interview was in ‘83. There was not a lot of videos being produced then compared to later. Not every song got a video like later.

Bowie had no problem with self identification. He simply enjoyed his various alter egos and understood theatre and characteristics of our archetypes that we identify with. This whole album is mind blowing. The birth of heavy metal. Many a teenage night lost in this album back in the 80's

Other HIGHLY recommended songs you must listen to: Sound and Vision, Life on Mars, Time, Drive In Saturday, Station to Station. Bowie was always changing his musical identity. Genius.

In the early 90s I went to a Bowie and Nine Inch Nails concert. Bowie started playing this song and some Jabroni behind me says loudly “he’s covering a Nirvana song!” Facepalm TBF, Nirvana’s acoustic cover of it on MTV’s “Unplugged” is fantastic.

The critics loved this album. Then for years, they hated Bowie. He wasn’t always a respected. But this song is amazing. The use of synthesizers on the whole album is restrained and elegant and I love Bowie’s guitar way off on the corner of the mix.

Yes Bowie then Nirvana! Great song! There's also a version by a young lady named Jordis Unga from a reality show fifteen years ago. It was called Rock Star. They were looking to replace Michael Hutchence from INXS after his untimely death. She didn't win the show but she did go on to record & tour. Love her voice & unique style. She killed it on this song.

She was really good. I was rooting for Marty Casey, but oh well. That show introduced me to Radiohead’s “Creep”, since everyone had to sing it (or so it seemed). Changed my life. Jordis did a great job.

Don’t watch it on KZfaq. It’s had graphics added and IMO, it’s stupid. Here’s the actual video: vimeo.com/348064534 So good! If you don’t know much about Klaus Nomi, you should look him up. Fascinating guy with a fabulous voice. The other guy is Joey Arias. I don’t know a lot about him. The outfit David is wearing is very similar to one worn by Nomi. David’s is copied from Klaus Nomi’s style.

If you ever want to flip it around and here David Bowie doing covers, he has an album called PIN UPS, where he covers several artist's, including Pink Floyd's "See Emily Play" (those two together would be a great reaction video, especially since we just did THE WALL. "See Emily Play" is 180 degree away from that!, a rare, HAPPY pop song from the Syd Barrett days, more psychedelic...)
