PythonSelkan's Tribute to David Bowie, presented through the eyes of MGS Fans, featuring Metal Gear Solid V. A True Legend who inspired many, including Hideo Kojima with the Metal Gear Solid Series. The below are all references made to David Bowie in this Tribute:

2. Diamond Dogs.
3. Skull Face: "Major, I'm Burning Up!" - Referring to Bowie's Space Oddity.

What an amazing work, best tribute ever seen by me about david bowie in this game, big boss-David Bowie, im so gratefull to played this saga since metal gear solid 1. (Im not english speaker, sorry if there one wrong word) i love both, the story of metal gear, and david bowie (incluiding his songs)

I liked how David bodies cover was in the beginning and towards the end it goes to midge ure civet and then it does a David bowie tribute this is my favorite tribute.

I love the transition between Bowie and Midge Ure version, it's not the cleanest soundwise, but I think what it symbolizes with V Snake being a Doppelganger it's awesome. It's just on point.

Man, they should have used the original version of 'The man who sold the world' in MGSv. Ure's cover is awesome and all, but it's nothing like Bowie.

Konami used the Ure's version because the story was in 1985 and the single was edited in 1985, too.

Probably thinking too much into this but maybe because using a cover of Bowie is relevant to one of the main themes of the game. Venom is almost like a "cover" of Boss. Again, probably over analyzing it but thats my 2 cents

Whenever I hear this song I think it's the return of Major Tom. Almost as an alternate ending compared to ashes to ashes(or an extension). I believe that the song tells the story of an ex ground control member who heard of the return to Major Tom. After Tom's circut cut out, he began doing g his final dose of drugs(presumed from ashes to ashes) He was later presumed dead. Really, Tom romed either the moon or Mars, and eventually fixed his ship. He got back home to the disbalief of the ground control crew. Tom truely sold the world as he gave up his life on Earth for the experience of space travel. He saw the would on his ways in and out of it...

+PythonSelkanHD It's rather a reference to "The Great Escape" where Steve McQueen escapes from the nazis by a tunnel called Tom. At least that's what Zero thought at that time and he was wrong.

+Strunmahbron Yeah, with regards to "Major Tom", there were 2 references pointed out :) The Great Escape's "Tom" Tunnel was mentioned in MGS3 too, however they couldn't mention Bowie's Space Oddity as a direct reference in the game as MGS3 was set in '64 and Space Oddity was released in '69.

+PythonSelkanHD Perhaps you already know that but, according to Kojima, Space Oddity was supposed to be the ending theme for MGS3. But during the development of the game, he realized that the story not focused enough on spatial thematic, so he replaced Bowie's song for Way to Fall, which is more relevant with the story.
