Apparently the british one is too cringey and boring for their tastes. I think the great achievement of the UK Office series is to show compassion for David Brent. That's the last thing you expect at the beginning, but by the time the series ends, your heart has gone out to him.

Amazing how sometimes simplicity is key. A series with minimum budget using real office premises became a hit with simple yet hilariously funny characters.

There’s definitely something about the British mentality and sense of humour where we just love to wallow in quiet tragedy. This whole scene is so utterly depressing on every level, you just have to see the funny side. Not every culture gets it...

O my god I don't know how nobody (as far I was reading comments) doesn't get that he's portraying totally unconscious and totally fake person. And majority of at least somewhat consciouss people or normal persons don't want to go "blasted" or to be in company of such person longer than necessary, simply not a good company. Doesn't know how to make a joke, doesn't know how to take a joke, painfully insecure, etc etc, but in position to make other people life miserable because he somehow became a manager, he and hire and fire. Obviously a personality disorder, only finch has more serious disorder (malign narcissist, more or less)

One of my favourite comedies of a time, I love the way David is motivated all the way through the talk but the crowd are unimpressed and unmotivated, it takes lots of acting talent to get that spot on with the reactions. Could watch this in 20 years time.

zee339 So I'm a traitor for thinking that the original version is funnier? What shallow thinking… There are tons of English fans that prefer the American version… Should they burn their flags because of it? Also, the word 'traitor' is a very serious term. I love my country. Man, what has this generation come to with their faulty reasoning?

Nothing annoys me more than when people say they prefer the American version without seeing the British one. The British version is authentic and funny, the other isn't. It's still funny, but in a completely less authentic way. Simple.

American version is more of a sitcom. British version is more real. I prefer the British version by miles but I like to watch the US version as a sitcom. It's good there are both. Also the UK version would be too short by US standards. They really like to milk their IPs. They need 100s of episodes
