What's great about him is he is a full-fledged artist. He isn't just focused on the music but the presentation the look and the feeling it portrays. Completely a genius.

To be fair, all the TH members are geniuses. Byrne is the best lyricist of them though.

During the Pandemic I was having a bad patch with depression and in the middle of the night I woke up and looked at my phone and saw an ad for American Utopia in NYC. In the morning I logged on and purchased a ticket for the show knowing it wasn't the best seat in the house but didn't care. A few days later when I got to the theater and was directed up the steps to my seat I froze.... I have vertigo and was not able to walk down the steps to the seat at the top of the balcony. The attendant said to me, "Don't worry this happens all the time.... go down the lower level and I will call down to the attendant there and we have a seat for you." It was a great seat and the show was spectacular.

such a beautiful story. I saw it in Santa Barbara and was transcended. Easily in my top 5 shows ever and I have seen a lot of shows. It went on to be on Broadway for goodness sake. Genius gets tossed around a bit and Byrne is known to be a bit difficult, but when you get this kind of performance? Yep

I went to a major exhibit on Dada art in NYC and they had playing over speakers in the ceiling, Dada poetry. Zurich, Switzerland and Hugo Ball were the start of the movement. WWI influenced a lot of artists and writers in that time period. David Byrne has the madcap inventiveness of a lot of the performers back then.

David Byrne is creative master in everything. His guitar alone is worth to be mentioned. Great thing is there a few videos on KZfaq to have a great overview about the developing artist. Start with CBGB's in 1975. Unbelievable...

Unless you are a fan of David then this movie was a piece of crap. l walked out. Then afterwards realised it was a conditioning movie for the sheep during the pandemic to fall in line. At one point David says the words climate change and then silence for a couple of seconds just so the sheep can get emotional, like werw on board man. Pure crap cinema moment.

It's so strange to see people praise Byrne as a music genius and then read the Wiki for this song where it says: 1. the lyrics are an adaptation of an existing poem that was made at least before 1926 when Hugo Ball died. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Zimbra#cite_note-2 2. Hugo Ball was quite the anti-semite, his works have been edited over the years to remove the anti-semitism and make Ball appear nicer. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugo_Ball#Anti-Semitism 3. The music itself was heavily inspired by traditional african music. It's a good song, I like it, but literally nothing in it is thought up by Byrne and the guy who did make the lyrics would have his butt cancelled off the stage if he lived today.

Pretty sure byrne is called a musical genius for having an incredible 4-5 album run where they grew from a small punk band at CBGBs to writing remain in light in a short amount of time. Oh, and having likely the two best live records ever released. I dont byrne himself solely deserves credit for all of that, but he was the face of the band.

This is kind of a ridiculous take. It's like those copyright bozos that want to have ownership over ideas such as the C Major scale etc. Like, alright. From now in if someone invents a circular object that is extremely useful or valuable: "Well first of all, circles were already there. The act of inventing was already done a billion times and value is overrated." Oh and by the way I know a nazi that likes circles and objects. And chairs, and breathing. Just a take that has no other purpose but to undermine the clear genius of David Byrne. And somehow make a cringe political point at the same time. But one thing is for sure. Even if you claim you could've thought of putting the music and poem together - you didn't. Byrne did. And people respect him.
