No one will ever come close to David in my honest opinion. He was one of a kind. Beautiful, yes, but very sweet man, and a very kind soul. Loved David here, and still love him to this day, Feb 23, 2023! R.I.P. David. You were loved so much!!! 😘💞🥰

He will be gone three years in two days and during that time, I haven’t tired of listening to his interviews. As an adult, I appreciate the person he was so much more than I could have possibly done as a kid. What a beautiful, sensitive soul❤️.

I recommend you read his autobiography Could It Be Forever. Fascinating how honest and sensitive he was....so talented. He deserves to be in the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame.

The producers of The Partridge Family should have had Keith Partridge grow with the show, go to college, have a dating life, move out, etc. Maybe it would have lasted a year or two longer. This would have given the actors a chance to move on to more grown up rolls on TV.

Has I rewatch is Interview the fortunate death of that young girl really hit him hard even though he personally did not cause her death it really effected him and the other performers. That was a terrible tragedy.still have kept them in my prayers.

David looks very exhausteld at 24 years old. Interesting and honest interview. Later in life he should have taken his rest some years earlier. But he went on mainly for financial reasons, to pay his debts. One of his legencies is a resting home for racehorses after their working carreer. RIP, David

What is he wearing? Yes it was an exhausting time for him. He just didn't think his wardrobe thru when he was tired. But nothing can take away his charm. He's so articulate in interviews. Keith Partridge was a part of David Cassidy's overall success. Without Keith he may not have achieved as much. Keith was a part of his vehicle to stardom. As time went on I think he recognized and even appreciate that; once he could distance himself from it all.

They had him working 20 hours a day, 7 days a week. Not even multiple illnesses and him having to have his gallbladder extracted (super invasive in the 70's) clued those suits in to MAYBE lay off and let him rest. I know people didn't age as well in the 70's as people do now, but he looks like he's aged 15 years at least between this and when the Partridge Family debuted in 1970. You'd think people literally profiting off his face would give a shit. This poor man. Hollywood seems to love destroying people.

Yes. You have to be almost superhuman to resist those pressures, to have the presence of mind to not get yourself caught in contractual agreements that will kill you spiritually. I think a few manage this, but most cannot.

@@nspector Part of it was his manager was so incompetent. I get that. But also, like I said, these people literally were profiting off his voice and face and he was coming down with facial infections. You'd think the fact that their literal bread and butter was spoiling would have at least made them slow down a bit, regardless of whether or not they cared about him as a human being. Even his so-called friends --- the opening of the Rolling Stone article on him was his friends forcing him into multiple nightclubs in New York while he was begging to go back to the hotel because he literally had the flu and was supposed to play Madison Square Garden the next night. Their bottom line literally depended on his fucking sinuses but their desire to drop his name and score was more important than him resting. I'm doing a podcast on him soon and good God, his story is obscene with how much this poor guy was used.

@@nspector we haven't published our first episode yet, but it'll be up in a couple weeks and the first episode is on Cassidy. I'll post back later. It's going to be about how various people have been abused in the media and entertainment industries. We're going to do a run on teen idols and child stars of the past and more recent past for the first few episodes and go onto various others. Stuff like the Twilight Zone deaths, terrible record contracts, ghost authors abused by franchise publishers, stuff like that. And yeah, I'll get in depth with Cassidy because there was a LOT. A sexual assault (on him), a sexual assault allegation (against him), a child death, the loss of an organ, alcoholism, an oil scam, creepy advertisements, parasocial relationships, possibly the mob, etc.

@@wendynerd1199 Wow. The Cassidy stuff sounds overwhelming. And in general, I'm very glad you're doing this. From what you list, it's what happens to child stars that I know a little bit about. I think it's extremely important that more people understand what's really going on. This must be a huge amount of work, especially if you want to be as accurate and thorough as possible, which seems to be the way you are going about it.

The reason he "didn't appreciate it" (the Partridge Family) was because they got David to sign a contract (he was a minor then) but the consequences of it was forcing him to make Partidge Family recordings plus David Cassidy songs which he was tied into. He didn't want the teeny bopper image. He'd work all day on the show then he was doing photo shoots and/or recording songs in evenings. Come Friday night he was doing long haul flights to the UK, Europe.. all over to do concerts and interviews. He never stopped. You heard him saying he was doing 16 hour days!! It was abuse really and it really affected him his whole life. He'd wanted to be a serious actor and taken more seriously.. It was that he was given no opportunity as the initial image was stuck with him BUT the fault mainly lay with him being much to gorgeous, much too handsome.. Loved his speaking voice. So sad he died..

He started doing that lip like, sort of tongue jutt thing, right after The Patridge Family, and he never stopped. It was sort of transitional, subconscious habit as he went into older adulthood. It really marked the end of an era. A physically beautiful era, that's not to say he didn't remain beautiful, just a different incarnation, for lack of a better word.

I don't think David Cassidy ever made peace with fame. When he entered the Partridge Family, he came as an actor, reluctantly, because he was wanting more from the craft. Instead he got this insane stint as a musical celebrity that generated big hits from the show. So then he suddenly wanted the public to take him serious as a musician instead of an actor. He was all over the map in terms of making a statement of intent because everything came easy for him as a result of the show and he wanted to believe it came just from being him. He was very talented, but always sabotaged his efforts by expecting too much. He was always looking to re-spark that original flame the Partridge Family gave him, not understanding that was not achievable. Its too bad he hated the character, because honestly Keith Partridge was a very relatable person, especially in the early 70's. He never understood that. He always wanted to believe he controlled how he acquired or dispensed fame. It was never in his hands to execute.

I f only the fans gave him more respect and not act like wild people maybe this would have been different the fact that he had to take 6 or more security people to ensure the safety of everyone. I do remember Shirley his step mom saying when he was home with his brothers life was a true Reality he and his brothers acted like true brothers.I am glad there was no Cameras and film crews.And there parents did a great job keeping the boys life’s private.

I think you might be right, Rick. I haven't read about him exhaustively like I have some other people, but my feeling is you are onto something. You need an incredibly strong sense of self, say like Jodie Foster has, to have and keep the kind of intent you're talking about after achieving early superstardom. Very few have that.

I'm doing a lot of research on him for a project and you're not exactly wrong. The man was a cornucopia of abandonment issues, identity crises, and trauma from exploitation at the hands of depraved, greedy corporate goons who left him completely adrift once they got what they wanted from him. In his book he says some very similar things to what you are saying here. In his defense, it is very hard to get a sense of both perspective and personal identity when you're shoved head first into a corrupt machine like the teen idol racket. What happened to him is in no way unique to what happens to a lot of people involved in it to this day. Some come out the other end okay, some don't. The ones that do are usually people who had some family stability or other form of solid foundation, which he... Didn't (or didn't until he was well into his thirties). His father was a manipulative, narcissistic deadbeat who by the end of his life was ranting to his family about how he was Jesus Christ. Numerous pre-fame friends of his died extremely young under tragic circumstances (OD's, murders). Meanwhile during the height of his fame he couldn't even have a stable house to go home to because either magazines would dox him or fans would find his address some other way and sneak into his house. The absolute insanity that surrounded him so quickly would warp anyone's perspective.

@@wendynerd1199 Hi, I think you've probably got a good handle on the dynamics here. I'd just like to say one thing. I DO think Jack Cassidy was manipulative and narcissistic. However, the Jesus Christ thing likely came out of a manic phase of bipolar disorder, which I believe he was diagnosed with, and is something I know about intimately. Since you are doing so much work, I want you to know that those delusional beliefs are not connected to narcissism. They are coming out of the mania. A person with a basically healthy sense of self can, if they go into a manic state, have what are called "grandiose" beliefs about themselves. I came very close to that when I was sick. @@nspector I'm aware. I'm bipolar myself. And yes, he likely was in a manic state, though I think that was more due to substance abuse than actual bipolar disorder. I know manic states are not symptomatic of NPD, however, delusions of grandeur very much are and if you combine them with substance abuse, you can produce a very, very similar scenario for yourself. I know he was committed to a psych ward but I never heard of him having a formal bipolar diagnosis. Can you send me a source? It would be useful for my project.

I think he was an exceptional talent, but some times we just can't have everything we desire. He wanted the fame and exposure as Elvis, Hendrix, Morrison, and other large acts at that time, but I think he would still be here if he had been content with staying with his Partridge Family song style. I realize he wanted outside that box, but its not for every talented person. He pushed himself to be in a genre of music that was just not him. I think it pushed him to his addictions and a early death. If he were here today, he would have been a great style of singer like Michael Buble' or even a modern day Sinatra. He had the looks charm and voice. Just watching alot of his interviews and seeing many of his concerts, it just appears he was trying too hard to be hard, and it just wasn't working for him. Justin Bieber is a good example of knowing what works for him and his voice. He has been true to himself and his work speaks for itself. David was a crooner trying to be a hard rocker, and I personally think it was the wrong path for him musically. Just my take on his troubled life. He was only 67 when he died. He could have been in his prime right now. Could have even taken over for the great Tony Bennet. I think of his last words, "So Much Time Wasted". He fought against what he was, a ballard, crooner singer. If he had stuck to that style, I think he would have had a much more happier and less stressful career. His struggle is over. Rest in Peace David. ❤

Really! He was an actor playing a part. He was an ‘original cash cow’ many made millions off him. He definitely wasn’t stoned here. He was having two careers running at the same time. He eventually came to terms with his time on the pf, embraced it and got a second career from it. I saw him at Wembley in 1973, saw him in time in the late 1980’s and then again in 2004 and 2012. You could see the fall coming and the drinking started again. He was a fabulous performer. He never dissed his beginnings as he was an actor and was from a show business family.

Noone can always be nice. Even nice ppl CAN loose their temper sometimes... If it happens only sometimes... and not always I let that pass. He was probably very stressed etc...

Funny how dissatisfied and "stifled" he seemed pretty much from the get-go. Not a particularly likable persona, especially considering what a fortunate position he was in at such an early age, in a career he apparently pursued.

He seems like a guy who had very little self discipline or had a very bad manager. Asked in an earlier interview in 1972 if he worries that his fame and earnings could be only temporary and he said he did not worry at all. He seems to overthink things to an absurd degree. He should have bagged as much money as he could while he could instead he threw it all away and then made a humiliating attempt to get back into it in 1990 when all his money ran out (presumably)
