I remember when I was a kid in the back seat of my dad's car and he had this song playing, I was looking outside at the stars while he brought me and my sis to his house late in the day god I miss that feeling of comfort.

Wow,15 years since Babylon was a hit on the alt radio stations.This tune was a great campfire cover for my buddies and our families.Even the "metalhead" teenagers who went camping with us got drawn into the sing along:-)

I don't know what the heck is happening in the comments here but I swear on all I hold dear that I am a real human being and not a bot. I catch myself singing this song, or random lines from it, all the time (especially on weekends for obvious reasons). It reminds me of a certain time in my life and summer nights in my parents' garden. Really means something very special to me, so thank you for that.

I only came here after a drunken conversation with my aunt about a vocal performer who did a David Gray song that was so awful that she had to leave and I was trying to remember what the David Gray song was that was playing in an old peoples cafe. Classic old people cafe music.

Tbh I hated this song as a kid. It was so overplayed, and I didn’t get it. As an adult, I get it now. It is one of my most favorite songs. Timeless. 🙌🏽

David gray set up his own company. He went to court to stop a large record taking the rights of his songs away from him. He became by his own admission to ambitious. But he has conceded that he could not make it in the music industry today if he was starting out.

Love this version, which is the first version I heard, where he says, "We-ell" before he begins the chorus. There are other versions where he doesn't sing that word.
