Sweet memories of my son, William 20, who was taken away from us far too soon in 2009. We drove length and breath of the uk listening to this awesome album. Came here from a mention within SOS magazine, from Matt Berry - Listening to his vocals it certainly reminds me of the style of John Martyn, were John would push his voice to be an instrument, and blur ( maybe slur being more appropriate ) his words (annunciate ) . John was never one to follow rules for song writing and his music - RIP

Really distinctive record. One of those that successfully captures a time and a place but that also translates internationally. I like the limitations of the scope in terms of technology and instrumentation, and this all ads to the creative approach and unique sound of the piece. And leaves ample space for David’s awesome voice.

He did a ton of good music after this. "Life In Slow Motion" is an absolute masterpiece. He never really "sold out", so he's got a hardcore of fans but he's so underrated by the mainstream. I doubt he's very bothered about that.

The white ladder is the water and wine! a looking glass for the ripples of time, yet not much more than a spiral on a line probably why we mix water with sand and lime... They probably made burnt snail shell mortar due to the inspiration from the grail trail that set sail!

White ladder is a nickname for Xanax. "White ladder, water and wine, don't wanna feel tonight," the narrator is using substances to numb himself so he doesnt feel pain from the love mentioned in the song.

@@g-girl9867 I dont believe it refers to cocaine because of my personal experience. I know white ladders is a term for xanax, because I used to buy them. Secondly, I dont know if you have done cocaine, but this song is not cocaine vibes. Like, at all. This is a downer song. But its music, so whatever it means to you is ok. Thats the point of music. Dont worry about what it means to me.
