I don’t get why people ask David these types of questions. It’s almost like they want him to give some negative response about Kojima. The dude is always gonna keep it classy. He’s not going to allow the whole “Not being Snake’s voice for Mgsv” get to him. It is what it was, time to move on.

Out of all the celebs I had the pleasure of meeting in the past david hayter was by far my most memorable experience. He's such a cool, super humble, and down to earth guy. I met him at the tampa bay comic con a few years back and we chatted for a bit as if we've known each other for years.

@@tripple-a6031 Technically, GZ was supposed to be the 'virtuous/tanker' mission of MGSV. Long development time put pressure on Kojima from Konami to release GZ as a stand alone to compensate.

Today the words "legend" and "epic" are so overused, but David Hayter is truly a legendary voice in the history of video games. He brought so much life into Snake and Metal Gear it's unbelievable.

Konami took MGS to “Hollywood” big budget and made it a hot mess to the point of collapse. Too top-heavy, while neglecting the base foundation that held it up all these years. As soon as David Hayter and eventually Hideo Kojima got taken off the project, the franchise immediately ended. The rest is history, LITERALLY.

Kojima took MGS to Hollywood big budget. That’s why Konami forced him to butcher the second half of the game, maybe if Kojima wasn’t so obsessed coming his pants over getting a Hollywood Uber star to voice snake he wouldn’t have ran over budget.

I remember reading or hearing somewhere that Hayter could not bring himself to play through MGSV. Now, I don't know if this is true or not... but seeing as he is very obviously invested in the series, part of me kinda wishes that the big "twist" of MGSV would put his mind at ease. What I'm referring to is the fact that, barring Ground Zeroes, the Snake you play as in MGSV is a phantom made in the image of Big Boss. With that in mind, I could see someone thinking "well, it's not -really- Snake, so it's OK if he's voiced by someone else (Kieffer in this case)."

But in the end, Sutherland portrays both roles. Kojima decided to chase his deeply instilled idea of being a hollywood director and chose a famous actor from his time as a young man watching movies over being loyal to his coworkers. It is important to remember that since the first Metal Gear Solid, Kojima has wanted the franchise to be finished. Who knows how much resentment he had towards Konami and the entire game development process of Metal Gear? Maybe he decided that if he was forced to make another Metal Gear game, he was going to do whatever he wanted, including fulfilling childhood dreams of hollywood. I wonder who else he reached out to to play Snake. Harrison Ford thanks to his role in Blade Runner? Who knows. In the end, we are all extremely saddened at the premature loss of Snake and the sudden departure of Metal Gear Solid.

I always wished that the “You’re big boss too” cutscene was Hayter talking to Sutherland. It wouldve been so great if it turned out that Hayter getting booted was actually a huge prank Kojima pulled on the audience.

Except that they kept the Japanese voice actor the same and he was only replaced for the English ones because Kojima wanted a bigger Hollywood actor

I get that everyone wants to validate their opinion that Kojima is petty, which is true (dude wanted to replace David specifically since Snake Eater while still keeping the JP voice of Snake consistent throughout. When he finally got Kiefer, David didn't even get notice.) But David is a fan of the series. I think he, and honestly we, would much rather just talk about the series itself. What it was.

He seems to have shifted his opinion on Kojima a bit. In previous interviews he said that while he does respect him as a game creator he doesn't care to work with him anymore... because of how he was let go as the voice of Snake.

Massive respect for this guy. While it’s true that the gamer writers and developers are an important part of making a great game, it’s just as important to have fantastic voice acting. That’s what we got from Hayter and other cast members. 8 years old and I played the fuck out of Metal Gear Solid! Completed it numerous times. Even played it again throughout my teens and a few years ago replayed the first one! ❤️

Sony wants to buy the Metal Gear and Silent Hill franchises from Konami (though Konami's more likely to keep those licenses, allowing Sony to use them without being proprietary). Konami won't make anything new apart from juicy games like money machines.

@HERETIC GAMER447 What I'd want is a PC port of MGS3 (and Peace Walker while we're at it), that'd run on the FOX engine. Imagine MGS3 having an actual remake! The 3DS one was ok-tier, but it's far from the gameplay we could have with the FOX engine... Anything with proper co-op would be nice too.

I remember in one of Kojima interview about MGS5 he mentioned a little bit of doing something of a taboo nature in video gaming. Could replacing David Hayter be that taboo. David Hayter is Snake through and through no matter how you look at it.

Kojima tried to replace him as snake more than once to get a “bigger” name to do it, so I don’t really blame Hayter to be a little bitter about it and to just dismiss the relationship as nothing more than a working one.

Not really. Solid Snake was 34 in the Shadow Moses incident (MGS1) yet had already started aging prematurely. Two years later in the tanker chapter of MGS2, Snake had already aged ten more years. By the time MGS4 rolled around, it was nine years after Shadow Moses and Snake appeared to be a man in his late 70's, even though he was only 43. Casting a younger actor, in this instance, wouldn't be appropriate. (Unless you were wanting to start at Operation Intrude N313 with a rookie Solid Snake)

All I could think of when he was talking, was the conversation snake had with mei ling after he landed at shadow moses. The part where she said " I can't believe I'm being hit on by the famous solid snake " lol. 22 years,and I still remember that. And later that night, Meryl got to have solid snake shoot a liquid snake in her and they went their separate ways for a few years.lol

David has so much class; he definitely lives up to the code name Big Boss. If you listen closely and raise the volume, you can hear Grey Fox voice in the background saying, "Now... fire the stinger!" Snake, "It's no good... I can't do it".

this is Just My Opinion Kiefer is Good. I Liked His Voice So Much. Kiefer should've been Big Boss since Snake eater, and David is The Original Solid Snake. What I Didn't Like About GZ Is That It Had Kiefer not David. David was Both BB And Solid. so it kinda felt different when Kiefer was BB In GZ. In TPP He Was Good, But He Had like a 12 Line Script? If Konami Makes a David Hayter Voice Pack For GZ And TPP, I'd Get That for sure. That Would Be Nice as You'll Choose Your Big Boss. either David or Kiefer I'd Be Happy If David Becomes Big Boss For The MGS Movie! My Opinion Is BB Should Be Kiefer and David Should Be Solid for any new MGS Games

It is so sad that we might never hear the tru snake again his solid snake, was the first vocal game character that I felt with through ups and downs even his sort of casual way of telling guys of, like otocon or raiden. Man so bummed that mgsV had keifer. No offense great actor and growl voice, just not Snake? SnAKE? SNAAAAAAAAAAKE

@@lordmoneyshot9317 thats a no, i did not get far in the MGS V i triede to up my gear alot a got all the checks checked, and i failed ALOT. man i am not good in open world, but i must confess I have seen a clip of what i think is the tru ending, and it seems at both clever and a sell out in my book. but it is the end we got because panchiko is apperantly better in konami eyes then keep their big hits going
