Sorry, I call these art works ordinary and narcissistic. Go look at really talented draftsmen through art history (no, I do not mean straightlaced academic types!), and you will see that there is very little talent in Hockney. Yes, I know he seeks to mask his deficits by striving for such things as childlike line quality. In any case, he fails. He is about attention-seeking.

@Winston Smith I think I have not been clear enough if you bring up an artist like Escher. He is a unique technician with a very narrow vision, but would never be mentioned in any art historian's list of, say, the best 1000 draftsmen by widely accepted standards. We often hear that art is in the eye of the beholder, but I do take issue with this platitude because it is said to include the views of the uneducated as equally valid. Yes everyone is entitled to their opinions about art, but I hold the opinions of those most educated in art and art history in immeasurably higher regard.

so what artists do you recommend and what about their approach do you like?

@@elinaj3689 I feel that anyone seeking such a list, which would represent an easy path to cut through the fog, would be better served to spend more time in museums and some hundreds and thousands of hours studying the best art books available. And eventually, slowly develop their own views and hierarchies of the top artists.
