I am not sure which is worse: that modern agriculture is slowing destroying the planet or that this video has only 4,000 views. This needs to be shared!!!

I built a version of the Johnson Su bioreactor using 14 gauge 2"x4"x4' wire fencing several days ago, it was 60 degrees out when I loaded it and now it is in the 20's overnight, my compost thermometer reads 74 degrees for the last two days. I can't wait to see how its doing this morning. I will never compost the same again.

I'm building one as soon as i can source the rest of the materials. BTW, part of what confused me on the video where he shows his unit was that it's all wood chips. I thought we had to add manure to make compost. What is in your bin? thanks.

@@wadepatton2433 ,In one of his talks on YT( 5. The Johnson-Su Composting Bioreactor) he discussed his first bioreactor and that he used 1/3 dairy manure, 1/3 wood chips ,and 1/3 yard waste. But he goes on to say that they currently use leaves exclusively because they are so readily available and end up with basically the same fungal/bacterial profile. I am using mostly oak leaves that I have ran thru a Worx leaf mulcher.

I did mix aged compost with the mulched leaves as I went along as well.

Look for the CSU extension instructions on building a JSBR. I completed mine on 1-19-21 and am very much looking forward to the final product

So, if I let my compost pile sit for a year, will it develop a diverse fungal community ?

Not likely. Their will be insufficient air inflow, rain will leach it, and it is in contact with the soil. I’ve done the pile style for over fifty years, and now my JSB is in process. In three months, I already see a beautiful difference.

Good information on soil biology, however we were created not evolved. It doesn't take that long look at how quickly the earth can heal itself given a chance.
